Omg I cannot believe you did this video. I have been researching unis in Finland for couple of days, and I need some info about it. Can you make a video on 31st December if you can of course? I would like to see city life and traditions of Finland. Thank you so much for your videos ☺!

I never heard of having to do an interview to get into college. I wonder if that's a newer thing, or perhaps a European thing. I went to a big state-run university in America during the 1980's. The way it was set up, if you had graduated from a high school in my state with at least a C average, they had to accept you. While the admission standards for out-of-state students were more stringent than that, I'm still pretty sure there wasn't an interview. All I had to do to apply for admission was to fill out a form with pretty banal questions such as asking for your name, address, birthdate, etc. Of course, they wanted to know all the schools you had attended previously and what your grades were. I don't even think they asked what you were planning to major in--at least not for undergrad. There were certainly no questions about why you wanted to live in that college town or what your interactions with other students were like. I could see a question like "Why do you want to go to this school?" on an admission form for prestigious schools like Ivy League schools, but even then, I don't think it would've gotten more specific than that. I applied to a doctoral program in an out-of-state school in the early 1990's. The most open-ended question was them asking what I was going to write my dissertation on. The only thing was, they didn't phrase the question so directly--they used some fancy circumlocution which threw me off of what they were really asking, so I didn't answer the question properly. Years later, I realized my mistake, and I was really frosted. Say goodbye to that $100 application fee--I didn't get accepted, obviously.

Hmm yeah we didn't have one for undergrad but for postgrad we had one for all the Finnish unis I applied to (but not the UK ones). So I guess this is a Finnish postgrad thing xD

Hi, I did not really get the laboratory part.How is your Master's degree program organised during the semesters? ( is it more focused on pratical experience than theorical ? Do you have an internship to do to validate it? ) overall, in what ways is it different than your bachelor's? Could you elaborate on it ? Thanks!
@KatChats.
@KatChats. 3 жыл бұрын
It's definitely more theoretical and focused on getting you into a PhD. There was no internship. Basically most of our courses are "mandatory" with only a few you can freely choose. So there will be regular courses you attend each sem similar to undergrad. Compared to my bachelor's it's more independent, they don't tell you grading criteria/you are on your own to find a supervisor/if you want an internship they aren't advertised but you have to contact people and look for them yourself and the lab I'm in is the one my supervisor conducts but he's rarely there so I've had to learn most of the stuff on my own or with my lab partners xD

While I'd like to go to Finland to learn to speak Finnish, I don't think university would be the right option for me. Maybe kindergarten would be more realistic! Of course, what little Finnish I know is kirjakieli, not puhekieli, so that probably wouldn't work out for me, either.

Hi I'm a British citizen and I'm going to apply this January, will I have to pay tuition fees since the UK left the EU?
@KatChats.
@KatChats. 3 жыл бұрын
My guess would be yes. Since in Scotland it's been free tuition as well for EU, but starting in 2021 Finns will have to pay international tuition fees there.
