Well predictably, it happened. But I think the singing is far better here, Knopfler seemed fed up with his own lyrics on Alchemy…

A song that transitions through generations flawlessly. Simply one of those songs that when it comes on, you listen from start to finish, every time. His unconventional finger picking style produces a mellow tone that's just easy on the ears.. Love this song. Sorry I missed the premiere but good to see you on here this morning!

What a great live rendition of this song. Thank you for that. You are right about that call and response between Mark and his guitar. He does that so often. The guitar expressing the emotion, his voice expressing the lyrical sentiment. What a fantastic combination.

G'day from Sydney. By an odd coincidence I've just been listening to the Alchemy Live version, and the difference is staggering! Of course you couldn't have known which of the many versions to review, but this one is just so flat, slow and simple by comparison. If I may suggest, you could just listen (by yourself) to the first 1-2 minutes of this longer version. If you think it sufficiently different to make a comparison video, I think that would be of interest to many people. And you would still be doing a "sight unseen" reaction to most of it. If not, at least listen to the end. I'm sure you will not be disappointed, as the Alchemy version is reckoned to be one of the best live performances of the last 50 years. Thanks for your hard work on our behalf.

Mark is a musician, vocalist, composer and a storyteller. He wrote Telegraph Road on a tour bus driving down Telegraph in Michigan. IT tells the story of the development and decline of industrialisation in the USA. BROTHERS. IN ARMS inspired by the conflict between England and Argentina over the Falkland Islands.

Hi Anna, I really enjoy the way you do this videos, from the body language, the smiles and enthousiasme, plus the switching of languages, makes it really feel as we're just a couple of folks having a chat about good music. I love it. Feels very warm. On the reaction: I agree, calling it a dialog between him and his guitar is pretty accurate, that guitar seems almost to have a personality of its own.

In the summer ('88 or '89) when My brother was away on holiday, I got to use his Amiga and his audio tapes for the summer. His dire Straits tape was the favorite tape I played back then. For some reason I had never seen a video with this music… In other news; Flamenco shimmy in a flanel shirt was not on my bingo card of interesting things for this year or any year; I liked the visuals very much.

Hi, Love your channel and reaction. I think you'll like the song Calling Elvis from DIRE STRAITS- Live "On The Night" 1993. Also recommend from the same concert Private Investigations where Mark purely narrates while playing acoustic, Spanish style.
