A song that transitions through generations flawlessly. Simply one of those songs that when it comes on, you listen from start to finish, every time. His unconventional finger picking style produces a mellow tone that's just easy on the ears.. Love this song. Sorry I missed the premiere but good to see you on here this morning!

Mark Knopfler is in that group of guitarists like David Gilmour - effortless, not flashy, but they get the most emotion out of each performance.

What a great live rendition of this song. Thank you for that. You are right about that call and response between Mark and his guitar. He does that so often. The guitar expressing the emotion, his voice expressing the lyrical sentiment. What a fantastic combination.

G'day from Sydney. By an odd coincidence I've just been listening to the Alchemy Live version, and the difference is staggering! Of course you couldn't have known which of the many versions to review, but this one is just so flat, slow and simple by comparison. If I may suggest, you could just listen (by yourself) to the first 1-2 minutes of this longer version. If you think it sufficiently different to make a comparison video, I think that would be of interest to many people. And you would still be doing a "sight unseen" reaction to most of it. If not, at least listen to the end. I'm sure you will not be disappointed, as the Alchemy version is reckoned to be one of the best live performances of the last 50 years. Thanks for your hard work on our behalf.

Mark is a musician, vocalist, composer and a storyteller. He wrote Telegraph Road on a tour bus driving down Telegraph in Michigan.
