I just love your channel. I am trying to get here more often. Why? You are one of the most unique channels. You offer tremendous analysis which is so different from the typical channels. There are plenty of vocal coaches for sure BUT, the enthusiasm you exude for good music is infectious and seeing the delight on your face is just marvelous. Whether in Finnish or English, I am a fan. Yes it's Brazilian Portuguese singing in English tongue challenge. You will notice Dimash has slight non native pronunciation prints. These require practise to more fully master native English pronunciation, something Dimash has much improved on. Often spending time living in native English country helps or working specifically on pronciation and tongue exercises such as impersonationz will overcome this. Something Arianna Grande excels at. Real mastery will eliminate a person's awareness where the singer is from as they sing in each language or speak natively.

The accent is not intentional and is stronger in some of his other performances but has improved in recently. As far as I'm aware he doesn't actually speak English. If you can, for all versions of gabriel henrique's songs. gabriel is a phenomenon in Brazil, a different singer, he takes a musical arrangement and transforms it into extraordinary, he transmits emotion, energy, his interpretation moves us, his musical style is gospel, blues, pop. he uses all his techniques within the song. Lovely reaction! I did almost spit out my drink when you compared his vocal range to Bruno Mars, but I give you a pass because you hadn’t really heard much at that point. Their Chest Voices do have a similar timbre, but Bruno won’t be covering Mariah in the original key in this lifetime. I hear most of Gabriel’s vowel modification as a slight Brazilian accent, I can’t speak to if it helps with Twang or not. There’s one point where he pronounces the word “I” as “eee” which is how it would sound in Portuguese. Thanks for mentioning how he uses Vocal Fry and Breathiness to vary his timbre. Those are things I can learn to use in my Spoken Word Performances. I’m a huge Whitney fan from the very beginning of her career. I also got to meet her (for like 10 minutes) in a nightclub DJ booth in the middle of her career. She was with Robin and (to me) that’s who this song is really about. I think that’s why her ballads have so much emotional depth. BTW, Whitney’s hyper articulation of consonants is very common in the Black Gospel vocal tradition she grew up in. I know you have a long list of songs to get to and only post about once a week, but I am still eagerly anticipating your reaction to Dimash’s “Love is Like A Dream”. He also has 3 new songs out and two of them will absolutely knock Anna’s cute little socks off. Just saying . . .

Hi Joel! I totally understand your initial reaction. Let me explain myself: I did not say their vocal capability is at the same level. To have similar timbres and vocal range (that refers to the notes you can reach) does not mean your vocal AGILITY is at the same level, which can only be achieved by practicing your runs and riffs. Whistle tones are another thing that usually does not come naturally and needs to be "unlocked". Bruno has clearly chosen the funky route, when Gabe here is going more extreme. I also see voices in colors, and these two singers have very similar voice colors to me. I could identify the Portuguese accent as well. I actually sing in Portuguese and other languages too without actually speaking the language. It is hard work having to listen to the original singer (or the singer you want to emulate) paying attention to every single word and nuance. You got to meet Whitney! I AM JEALOUS.

@@annavaskelainen Do you have synesthesia? I know a few people who have it and literally experience music in colors. I wish I did. I think it can be an advantage when making music. Billie Eilish and Pharrell are two famous musicians who have it. I was a nightclub DJ for about 15 years and I got to meet a bunch of famous (mostly black) musicians, usually very briefly. Some, like Eva Cassidy or Mariah Carey, I met before they were famous. Mariah was still a backup singer when I met her. I once performed poetry in a wedding ceremony that Eva was singing in, she was a total unknown at the time. Unfortunately I never got to meet Prince, who is one of my favorite musicians. I saw a performance of your band covering Earth, Wind, and Fire, it was pretty good. I was impressed. You probably know the music of Phyllis Hyman, she grew up in my neighborhood, although she was 12 years older than me so I didn’t know her then. She’s one of my favorite singers ever. Interestingly enough, Phyllis was on Arista Records and when Whitney got signed to Arista, Phyllis went to Clive Davis and asked to be let out of her contract because she felt like all of the label’s attention was on Whitney. I of course love the more detailed and technical analysis, even if most viewers don’t. I hope you keep giving us some of that and really can’t wait to see your reaction to Love is Like a Dream, I’m excited to know it’s on the way.

I too sing in other languages (Portuguese, Swedish, Russian, Gaelic...) and it takes a lot of work to really concentrate in every single word and the smallest nuance, but it is needed to really nail the song.
