@@DX5555555 No dude. It was at its peak in the 80s to early 90s. WrestleMania 6 was in 1990 when Ultimate Warrior fought Hulk Hogan. Probably the most iconic peak but a few years later it went downhill. It was the time of Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan, Andrew the giant, Million dollar man, Jake the Snake, Mr perfect, the rockers, demolition, Randy Savage, Rick rude, Hitman hart and many more.. It was WWF.

Fight Club and Matrix are still amazing and groundbreaking (and easily most quotable) movies. Didn't Blair Witch Project came out in 1999 as well? It pioneered the shaky camera/found footage horror genre.

The year I graduated high school. The summer of 99 was such a romp, a feeling of endless opportunity. It really was a more relaxed time. Three songs come to mind. 1. Len - Steal My Sunshine 2. Backstreet Boys - I want it That Way 3. LFO - Summer Girls Took a family trip to Canada that summer and it seemed like those songs were on constant repeat on Much Music.

No Mr. Bungle. California was a masterpiece. I don't remember any singles though. That was an album I saw in the music store in 1999, picked it up on a whim and was blown away by how crazy it was and is an all time favorite to this day. 13 by Blur being another that i bought after seeing the video for Coffee & TV and really liking that song, and was also very pleasantly surprised by that album. Very dynamic and unique.

13 might be the best Blur album, their most experimental at least. But they are from Britain and this list is very US-centric. I'd also put Skunk Anansie on the list, which is another British underrated band, they too had probably their best album released in 1999 (Post Orgasmic Chill, great stuff)

My theory on Bungle's California was that it was a troll against RHCP at the time when they released Californication as there was a giant beef between RHCP and Bungle. Both are on the same record label Bungle's album was originally called "In Technicolor". At some point WB made Bungle move their album release date because it was suppose to be the same day as Californication. I think Bungle changed the album to California to puke fun of them.

1999 was the peak of that one time we all collectively decided industrial disco metal was something we should all listen to. Powerman 5000, Static X, Orgy, Rammstein, Rob Zombie, etc. What a time to be alive. Also Staind has one song that I actually like, but I never remember which one it is. I've tried to find it (not very hard) for years and I can't. I'm starting to think that maybe I imagined a Staind song in a fever dream that I like better than all the other Staind songs. Also Aaron Lewis' country career has been MASSIVELY successful. People who stay in their metal bubbles probably don't even know that Aaron Lewis has been a fucking legit country star for the last 10 years.

Our Lady Peace is so good, Finn! That album "Happiness..." is amazing, but I think you'd have a hayday looking into their follow-up album Spiritual Machines. They worked with Ray Kurzweil to make a concept album that tells the story of humanity reaching the singularity, and the way they changed instrumentation and mixing throguhout the album to facilitate that whole 'humans becoming one with computers' is really cool. Total lightning in a bottle album. One Man Army is actually my most played song according to iTunes. Not my favorite song, but apparently the one I've listened to the most. Would love to hear you dig into OLP's catalog. It's good stuff, man. Just say away from their stuff once they started working with Bob Rock. You probably recognize a couple tracks off their 'Gravity' album like "Innocent" and "Somewhere Out There", but that's where they started to go downhill for many of us.

On the Hip Hop tip, Dan the Automator and Prince Paul's Handsome Boy Modeling School album "So... How's Your Girl? is a slept on masterpiece from 1999. With guest spots by Kid Koala, Grand Puba, El-P, J-Live, DJ Shadow, Mike D, Del The Funky Homosapien, Sean Lennon, Money Mark, Trugoy the Dove (RIP), Biz Markie (RIP) among others! On the alt music side BECK's Midnight Vultures dropped in 1999. Amazing album that is probably his most underrated. Hollywood Freaks and Debra are absolutely killer songs. Finally, my daughter, Emma, was born in 1999! ❤

Yes Finn, 1999/2000 was not only the peak of music, but the peak of the entertainment industry and modern western culture as a whole. Most of the music was banging, most of the movies were banging. I wished I was a teenager at that time, instead i was only 3/4 years old. One of my very first memories is the August 1999 Solar Eclipse here in the U.K.. But 1999/2000 was the peak of modern western culture and unfortunately I don’t think it will ever get back to that.

I started college in the UK in '99, and only know a fraction of these songs. Hip hop and Drum n Bass was my unwitting musical landscape. I intended to take things seriously when I started, and hadn't used anything for a week (which felt like months); before finding myself with roommates that not only shared these interests, but broadened them. My first ever concert was filter, who were opened by Oleander. Filter came out and just REFUSED to play "Hey Man, Nice Shot" until their final song and it was just a chorus of boos from the crowd.

I was 19 in '99. The music was awesome and you're right Freak on a Leash got me into Nu-metal. There was also el Nino that year and the weather was perfect with a cool summer and hardly any rain. I always think back fondly on that year.

I went to a concert like 5-6 years ago that was like a day long punk festival with The Offspring and Bad Religion near the top of the bill, but one of the biggest reactions of the day was for Lit at like 2 in the afternoon when they played My Own Worst Enemy. Great great song.

It's because we were. There were several 200+ person house parties to choose from every weekend, and a keg-er at the park every half-day. My nephews, 10 years my junior, didn't do shit. Not their fault. They're cool and talented fuckin' dudes. I think we just left them with scorched earth...
