I believe the two teeth makes it an "uber predator" which is just a quick reference that the ability of that fish is going to affect all players, rather than one-teeth predators. Perhaps so people around the table know to get ready for the ability from seeing the teeth.

Just my opinion, but I think you SHOULD compare it to the other 'span games and I don't think it should be avoided. I feel if a company is going to lean into a familiar and popular system to sell and promote a game, then we have every right to compare it to the others. None of that is bad or wrong, I totally support companies coming out with a line of games that people love. And if they're going to do that, then the game has every right to be compared to it's other family members.

Oh I definitely will compare...the tricky part is balancing giving a review that works for someone who knows the other games as much as it does for someone who never played the others.

@@BoardGameCo That's a fair point. The variance of the viewers familiarity with the previous games is something I don't have to think about haha

@@BoardGameCo I was a little disappointed that you didn't give it a split rating: 4 out of five if this is your first 'span game because it's your favorite of the series so it shouldn't score less than the other two, but a 3.5 perhaps for people who already own and play another 'span game. It's hard to say, "This is my go-to recommendation for the series" (at 15:18) and then score it lower.

I'm digging this growing span series. I like and own Wingspan. I really like Wyrmspan, and it's owned by my girlfriend and another friend. I'm glad that this latest (and final) addition is taking things in a new direction with columns instead of rows and a more flexible system for the spots where cards can be played. I ordered a copy and hope it will be appealing to my "lighter game" gaming friends.

Also, I believe there is one of the random end of round goals for certain tags. So your big predators like a Great White give you more towards that.

There are more mechanism changes from Wingspan that I expected. We are going to stick with Wyrmspan given the increased complexity

It's good if you're a fish person. So like the blue people who live underwater with the Sub Mariner?

Does no one else see the irony of someone criticizing games for cards not mattering when they also profess love for terraforming mars..
@BoardGameCo13 сағат бұрын
I mean, that's exactly the point...I adore games with tons of cards where you have to find the best ones that work together. I get that sense from Terraforming Mars, Vindication, Everdell, Evenfall, Wayfarers and many others...I never get that sense of caring about the cards from the Span series.
@ICE0neMi612 сағат бұрын
@@BoardGameCo Just seems a little weird to draw a line between the cards in wingspan and cards in terraforming mars or wayfarers. The cards in a vacuum, for the most part, are variations on other cards where you're not really looking for a specific card so much as just one that fits your strategy. There are so many cards in Terraforming Mars, I don't see how you could ever plan or hope to get one specific card or even remember what a specific card even does. Wayfarer land and sea cards don't even have names to know if you got that one specific card. Everdell is different from the others in that it makes you search for specific named cards, but there are also multiple copies of those cards in the deck. Maybe having more plays in those other games creates an inherent bias since you are more familiar with them.
