She'll definitely be one of those artists whose legacy people study generations after, yet who was never fully appreciated in her time.

Very interesting. The hands in the hips is an old thecnique to help the diafragm works better for the singing. In the north of Spain, for example, this style is constantly used to play "jotas". The legendary José Iranzo "El pastor de Andorra" (see in youtube) used to sing that way.

@Nula And maybe also that her approach to singing involves such focus on the song that her arms sometimes do strange things by themselves if she's not using a trick to control them?

Jon Brion. He's a pretty clean guitar player, plays with much clarity. he really does a lot... like soundtracks, i think, i heart huckabees & eternal sunshine of the spotless mind & prolly more. i think he also was the producer for Fiona's 1st album. Search in youtube for Fiona Apple Club Largo, all those shows are sweet.

He was the producer of Extraordinary Machine, but then the label made them change some arranjements because it was "too good" and it was taking over fiona's voice impact... Fucking stupid labels...
@BillHaines373 жыл бұрын
He played on her first album, produced her second, and it's a long story about the third, but not about its being "too good." Brion laid down a bunch of tracks over FA's vocals so that she could pick and choose and decide what to do from there, and she was unsure what to do and set it aside. Nobody thought those were versions that could be released, and they were never submitted to Sony. That's basically the so-called "unreleased versons" one hears. And from there the story gets complicated. Personally I much prefer the final versions.
