Fire Academy Week 6

As a firefighter, I strongly congratulate you as a Fire Department because of this idea of making a vlog about the academy process so not only the people can see how hard is the training (and also realize that firefighters aren't superheroes, they're regular people with the correct formation and really hard workers) but also to allow Fire Departments in other countries to watch and compare objectively their academies and understand that this profession is universal as we work on similar standards. Amazing job!

I am a freshman in high school and either wanting to do nursing or firefighter academy both seem like amazing jobs and require lots of work and training! Can’t wait to see what my mind leads me to in the future

if you are in highschool and they have a running start program go ahead and take EMT right off the bat in highschool. It can give you an intro into emergency services and if you don't go that route a lot of nursing programs will take EMS patient contact hours for their program.

It varies from department to department, but most will allow people to have tattoos

Are there any links or ways to get a copy of the Wellness program for the strength & condition training that SMFR uses? I think it would be a great thing to share with other firefighters or others looking to improve themselves and their department members. Unfortunately we don't have nice outside 🥶 pools in Alaska 🤣

yeah there is some paper tests you have to take, it's all on the instructional portion of the class.

Hey I wanna be a fire fighter I am 20 but broke my wrist a few months ago I am in the city of Philadelphia Will my injury affect me from becoming a fire fighter ?

Not if it is healed and rehabbed correctly. Talk to your doc and get cleared before you pursue getting hired on and going to recruit school. I know lots of guys who have had surgery to repair major damage to their knees, hips, shoulders, etc. the only thing that really matters is whether or not you can do the job. If you want it badly enough and you don’t do something dumb to hurt yourself while you train, there is no reason why you cannot be a firefighter if you work with effort, desire, and consistency for a long enough period of time.
