There's a small medical center near our main hospital that was built in the early 90s with a Simplex 4001 system, with those same horn/lights and single-action pulls, but with 2098-9201 photoelectric smoke detectors instead of the rebranded System Sensor ion detectors. Some time back the 4001 panel was replaced with a Simplex 4006, but everything else was left intact. Our main bus terminal was built in 1999 with a Simplex 4005 system with the same electronic horn/strobes and dual-action pulls, along with a couple of those conventional TrueAlarms and more 2098-9201 detectors.

When I was in middle school the Simplex panel went into trouble because of a dirty smoke detector. Why is that? And my elementary school's Spectralert Classics were tied into the school's intercom, so the intercom would make a weird noise
@safetech5 жыл бұрын
A dirty trouble is triggered when a detector is out of its standard sensitivity value. I.e. it has accumulated dust/particulate and needs to be cleaned.

@thetechiesworld5 жыл бұрын
That must be a pain; resetting each panel separately in two different locations when an alarm occurs. I’ve seen this practice of tying panels together when building additions are made but I’ve always wondered why? Is it a cost-saving measure to just install a second panel and wire it with the existing than to just replace the older panel with one that can accept more zones etc?
@safetech5 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily in every instance. Usually due to the building structure it is sometimes easier and less invasive to just tie the two together. Also customer preference and price plays a role.

I've said the same thing about my first elementary school, with a Simplex 4010 (originally a 4004, and before that a 2001 or small 4002) tied into the original Simplex 4208 panel. Though to be fair, the 4208 was used as a slave panel for the existing pull stations and heat sensors.
@brianthetowerguy9792 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing, they had to run wires between the 4001and 4005 anyway. So for a few extra wires they could of used the 4001 as a makeshift FATC for the 4005 system. Cool system tho.
@FriedWill110 ай бұрын
Here is the problem with do that. The 4001 outputs FWR current while the 4005 outputs dc current. The alarms on the 4001 can operate with FWR, but the alarms on the 4005 do not operate well with FWR, as the strobes may flash faster than it should and the horns will sound like they are dying.
@weatherdan88200210 ай бұрын

These don't seem quite as bright. I think these are 9236s. 9238 is 110CD. You would know it was a 9238 if it had an orange triangle, if it isn't a 9238, then it is a speaker version, the 9144, which in this case they aren't. It may be a 9237, which is 30CD, but I don't think so, because that would have a blue circle. If you see a simplex 4903, pay close attention to the candela indicator.

Simplex used to rebrand numerous companies' smoke detectors, including ESL, Fenwal, Hochiki, Pyrotector, Sentinel, Statitrol, even System Sensor! By the 90s, they eventually settled with Hochiki, to the point where Hochiki's Mexican division now manufactures the stuff Simplex designs and patents themselves!
