My brother in law owns a 20B FD RX7. He is a real science nerd you would never EVER think would be a car guy. The flames are so pervasive and going lasting he had to develop his own number for the FD. Made out of aluminum and stainless steel with the section surrounding the exhaust coated in a combination of ceramic and a color matched high temperature paint. It usually would burn through the paint on the bumper every few months under hard driving. To the point he stopped driving it as often. Now you wipe off the carbon and unburned petrol and it simply doesn't have any real effect on it any more. With such a rare Ruf I would have to do something similar because there's just no way that bumper isn't burned through now. Gotta love old tuned single Turbo Porsches. With only a one way exit for the whole of the exhaust combined with buckets of unburned fuel, your gonna get flames every single time you get on it when the motor and exhaust are hot.

its so efreshing to see a RUF owner in america he really deserves the privlegde that makes this car something that will remain inyour onversations, dreams and will be a part of your life forever with or sadly without owning it forever. they are so specialyour kids grandkids family and freinds ill enjoy stories and expirences that last a life time. alois builds these cars for driving and being a penultimate sports car. you are the rightful owner and were destined to have it before its was eer in your garage. your words were so poetic and showed a love for this car that if other ruf owners werent familiar with they surely dint deserve to own them in the 1st place. sir i wish you all the joy and happiness that you KNOW will come fom having it. thanks for sharing it from a true Ruf r fanantic since the first one i saw 1984 scr non turbo. before people ever heard of the yellowbird. godspeed and cheers

I’m so glad to learn this exists . The slant nose has always been one of my favorite iterations and to add RUF and a drop top ticks all of my boxes

These early RUF cars were bespoke creations that were mostly built to special requests, much like the Singers are today. At the time, the limits were your imagination and your checkbook. This was one of the early RUF VIN cars, after RUF became recognized as a manufacturer by Germany, and this was either a spec design exercise from the factory, or a commission for an early owner who was the CEO of a very 80's fashion line. It was reviewed by Road & Track in May 1987, when it was featured on the cover. I fell in love with it then and it was cars like this one that inspired a life long passion for cars and driving. Some other cars were conversions from existing Porsche VIN cars, but this is pure 80's excess as it was intended from the factory. For the record, RUF still does restorations and builds to custom specs. All it takes is a dollar and a dream - OK, probably lots of dollars and a dream...
