Edit: correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t all the enemy characters all Norse based? This could open the door for the rest of the Norse pantheon to be introduced. Edit two: just played through all available chapters and found out who were the two generals really were, this is getting deeper in lore territory.

Yeah, all or most of the characters and weapons are all Norse in origin. Alfonse's sword Folkvangr for example, is supposedly one of two places people go when slain in honorable battle, either to Folkvangr (field of the host/people) ruled by Freyja, or to Valhalla with Odin, and Valkyries choose where to one of these 2 places people go to when slain, Eir being a valkyrie (possibly) that represents medical skill and mercy. In another example, Surtr is supposed to be a jotunn, which is kind of analogous to things like demons, giants, etc and are typically evil, and Surtr in particular is associated with Ragnarok (the end of the world). The list goes on and on, and a lot of these themes are prevalent with many of these characters.

Not Hell but Hel, the realm of the dead in Norse Mythology. Not the same thing as Hell. However I just beat chapters 1 and 2 of Book 3 and so far Sharena is not dead. This scene may happen waaaaaaaaaaay later on in Book 3 though. So unfortunately two members of Kiran's harem may die by Book 3's end. Fjorm due to the Rite of Frost and Sharena by Hel's scythe. But what happened to Alfonse in that black water though?
