It goes a bit deeper than that. He was abandoned as a baby by his birth parents and treated like a monster or like he didn’t exist wherever he went because of his brand (which I’m fairly certain the mentor who taught him magic mistook for a spirit charmer’s mark,and that was the only reason they accepted the deal with Soren’s abusive adoptive parents) growing up to the point of becoming feral and untrusting towards others, only for a single act of kindness from child Ike who happened upon him to completely turn his life around. That was what in turn led him to want to learn how to speak and then seek out Ike again to be by his side. He also knew how to read or write and what words meant, but talking wasn’t something he was ever taught until then because his adoptive parents never cared to or they didn’t want to teach him how to potentially talk back or call for help in response to the abuse and verbal assaults. His mentor also saw him as nothing more than something he purchased and could pass his knowledge of magic on to, and apart from speaking the words necessary to spell cast, talking wasn’t considered necessary to teach Soren for everything.

Soren is wordless, like in the lore? Holy crap that's an amazing attention to detail, definitely raises my care for the banner. Ike having his adult voice is still funny but a fun nod to Radiant Dawn's....shall-we-say odd flashback. Points there. Mia and Ilyana are "cute" but disconnected from the youngins of the company. (Ilyana is just some Daein wanderer, Mia they met when she was older). I know these banners bring child versions of heroes but it would've been fitting and really cool to have a younger Titania and Greil in the mix.

But being Mia and Illyana! It ould be little surprise they'd have likely have forgotten the first meetins anyway! Plus I have no idea with Ike and Mist which time their young selfs are from! BEFORE their mother's death and Lehran sealing Ike's memories of Greil/Gawain going mad from contact with Yune or "AFTER" I do remember they met twice, Ike not remembering him in the second meeting because of the memory sealing! Mist would be the odd one out as I don't think she met Soren at anypoint before the "second meeting" of Ike and Soren. But could be chalked up to her being pretty young when Elena died as Ike has stronger memories of her then Mist because of the age and time they had together (even if Lehran sealed HOW she died as Ike witness Gawain/Greil killing her in his "Yune induced" madness) Would have been neat to see a younger Titania similar to young Minerva but abit older (I think she was in her late teens, or early 20;s when she met Gawain and Elena since I do know she did know the two before Elena death which factor into why she left her feelings for Gawain untold, he was happily married for one, and even after Elena death she respected their relationship to not dare take advantage of her absence! And then of course Gawain death via Zelgius) and a Greil back when he WAS Gawain and the famed swordsmen he was known as (likely looking like Ike in Radiant Dawn) sad part would be this is him when he and Elena fled Daein but before her death so we get alot of "Gawain is unaware of what happens next following the point he was summoned! Would be interesting more so to see a "Young Zelgius" I have no idea when his Branded stat entailed or if he is long lived or not! Micaiah was said to be exactly as she's shown in Radiant Dawn by the time she met Sothe so I have no idea, but by "young" I refering more to when he was being trained by Gawain! Nice insight into him and would tie him more with his Expy Jeritza/Death Knight (Jeritza came off more as while he didn't have Zelgius "cool factor" especially as the Black Knight! He did come off as a more developed characterwise of him)

He's not shy-He literally doesn't know how to talk. Without getting into spoilers, his birth parents abandoned him, his adoptive mother dispised him and pawned him off to an old sage who taught him magic but didn't care about him as anything beyond a tool. When the sage died and he wandered into a nearby village he understood what people were saying but didn't know how to actually form words himself, and would have starved to death if Ike didn't find him.
