This was my fantastic nightscape experience from August 12-13 2024.
I know this is a longer video, but PLEASE watch all of it. The sky just got better and better during the night! As a sidenote - what are the odds that my wife and children get startled by a false fire alarm in the middle of the night, send me a message, I tell them to look outside for aurora and just as they step outside they see the same loooong meteor that I managed to catch on film? Unreal!
Thank you to Paul ‪@nightscapejournals‬ for the great idea of sharing channels that he likes and watches. I will do the same, starting with a few of my favourite nightscape channels (in no particular order!):

Amazing night sky full of colours and shooting stars that you captured really nice. Great location in a forest by a big lake. I love the reflections, tree horizon line and the mist creating a cool ethereal effect which lends itself superbly to the aurora laden sky. Fantastic!!

Amazing, Martin!!! I mean what are the odds? Aurora AND Perseids!!! How many times does that happen in a lifetime? We were clouded over the whole week in my location so I missed the meteor shower. Thank you so much for sharing this unbelievable event!

Absolutely wonderful, Martin. So glad you captured all this, especially after missing out on 10 May. I enjoyed every minute of this video - not only does it capture the beauty but very definitely the excitement and craziness as well. Really nicely filmed. Love the way you panic in the most relaxed, chilled-out way possible! 🤣

Really nice vlog and everything you captured. And I have to say, the landscape is sooo beautiful there. Can't imagine how is there in autumn. I always had a soft spot for Scandinavia, even tho the landscape is very diverse. Just looks so peaceful, so its not a surpise it is one of your favourite lakes.

Spectacular, I really like your shots where the Aurora was reflected on the water, that was something else! And the meteors trough the Aurora, I never seen that before!

"I want to say I'm speechless but I'm talking all the time". That is a classic quote already Martin! I might steal that one sometime 😄. It sums up your experience very well though. What a night! You captured it very well, in video as well as pictures. Thanks for sharing this with us!

This video just came up in my feed, it transported me there with you, thank you. Beautifully done and some great captures, plus your real wonder and excitement. Can i ask how you got sych great quality video in lowlight, when j film it is always too dark?
@MartinFransson

Thank you, I am so happy you liked it 🙂 Well, for the filming to turn out good you need a camera that is able of strong low light performance plus a lens with really good light gathering. I use a Canon R6 and Samyang 35/1.2 or 24/1.4 lenses. My settings are usually ISO 51200 and 1/25s f/1.2 or 1.4. Plus I do some rather heavy noise reduction in post processing. So it takes a lot, unless the aurora is more powerful than what we get down here.

@MartinFransson Thank you for your reply Martin. I just looked up your gear, and decided to just watch your videos! I have an old Samsung NX20 with a 16mm F2.4 lens, not great with lowlight. Really, I do not need to go upgrade, you do a great job of setting the scene, and taking us with you.

@@tribeoflight-ireland868 yes, unfortunately when it comes to real low light performance it tends to get expensive... but your camera would for sure be able to produce some nice timelapses of the night sky, have you tried that?
@tribeoflight-ireland868
@tribeoflight-ireland868 Ай бұрын
@MartinFransson I have only recently got it, and new to mirrorless cameras. It has no timelapse option like the NX1 but has an option for multi motion upto 20X. The max ISO is 3200 for this. I will keep trying and slowly learning the features, I live in a fairly dark area, so at 57 suddenly want to take night photos, it is really good fun, but challenging. Thank you, and your channel really deserves more recognition.

@@tribeoflight-ireland868 look at producing timelapse from still images! Then you can make timelapses of the night sky. Just get a remote trigger for your camera 🙂 And thank you for your support! It means a lot!
