help! the moment I drag the "col" null to the Color OP in Geometry, everything stops working and the render TOP says "A mat is using texture coordinates, but the SOP being used with it does not have UV attributes" :/ what could it be? Thanks for this great tut!

yes it does, there's unfortunately no way to export a touchdesigner file as a standalone.

Hello! Fun question. First of all: To understand these processes in general, I suggest following Paketa12. Great to understand how pixels work, and how we can calculate with them. I bastardize a lot of his ideas. Otherwise Lake Hekaman, Elekktronaut, Polyhop, and Matthew Ragan have some great explanatory tutorials. If you want to understand this one in particular, I actually suggest first looking in to “instancing” And then go through it node by node to try to understand what each node is doing. (Remember that you can “view as points” to see the pixels as points in space)And if you don’t understand it, read the touchdesigner documentation on the node. But I also suggest breaking the project down to smaller parts and just playing with it to build intuition. If you want to understand the life comp, I have a new(ish) tutorial dedicated to it where I try to explain how and why it works. I’m not a great teacher and try to focus more on art direction, but I’m happy to point you to better teachers.

Hi man, another super video here and I am super happy! I have threquestions: can you link Paketa12's video about the life component technique? I need to know more. is there any way to stretch the UV grid (like 16:9) or something like that? is there any way to using an input video (like webcam) to create more interactivity? MiniUV shared its great 2D particle technique in a video and showed how to make an image react to this system, but I don't really understand this complex stuff :(

Yeah, just to be clear, I wasn’t clear in the original video, I’m not stealing a life component from him I feel like mine is different enough and he isn’t making a life component in the video. Otherwise I wouldn’t put it on my Patreon. And the answer is math. I don’t have a specific tutorial in mind, but I think paketa12 has some great examples of how to do it. I haven’t really figured it out in this specific system since the remap top doesn’t handle values outside of 0-1 very well.

MiniUV also shares some insane stuff on IG, but I haven’t dug into their tutorials. I was actually trying to stretch the uv before posting the tutorial, but couldn’t really make it work in a clean way. Please let me know if you figure it out :)

How do I connect the life component? I've tried making the life component in this actual project and also by itself (saved to tox) (importing via import component from tox, nothing happens) and importing it but I can't seem to connect it to the keyboard in...hope this makes any sense... sorry I'm an idiot. you need to assign the keyboard-in chop to the reset button of the component. Aslo make sure you are connecting the select to the input of the comp. assigning the "start" null to the select and then multiplying the select with the output of the comp. does that help?

I don’t have a Kinect, but I imagine you can get chop values related to position. Any value between 0 and 1 in the x and y can be used and if they are larger or smaller than that you might need to attenuate them. And just substitute the values from the mouse-chop for the Kinect chop. You will also need some sort of “trigger” to substitute the mouse clicks.
