The Fire salamander is undoubtedly one of the best-known and most striking amphibians of the Iberian Peninsula.
It is a fairly common species, with yellow spots on a black background, a flat head with well-visible parotid glands, a thick body and a relatively short tail. Adults can reach 28 cm in length, although the subspecies shown in the video (S. salamandra laudaceous) is usually much smaller.
Although salamanders are generally ovoviviparous, the sumptuous subspecies has a viviparous behavior, so stop their fully metamorphosed offspring. As you can see the copy we have recorded is pregnant and looking for a refuge to spend their winter lethargy and give birth to their offspring.
I hope you enjoy this video.
