Seriously, this is one of the most helpful tutorials for basic staff movements I’ve seen. Thank you.

I've watch so many tutorials on the basics and this video puts together all of those things plus more into one video in a well constructed manner. Well done.

The way you have colored your staff makes this a lot easier to follow the motion than other tutorials ive seen. Thankyou for posting this :)

Thank you for this video, i've been looking for a basic staff tutorial, and this is the first one i've found that wasn't contact staff.

Started getting into fire arts and decided as I have more experience with a staff (martial arts) that I would get the POI for long term training and the staff to start getting used to the movements with the fire and manipulating it. Between you and drex I see and glean a lot of knowledge. I do however have to say I like your videos WAY better. thank you for the knowledge

Thanks for your reply, please take your time, i;m looking forward to the next one, but i suppose it just gives me more time to get to know the basics before moving on, I love the look of Poi but they scare me just now, maybe after i have some more experience with the staff first,

You can go from rotors, through stops and bounces, to contact stuff. 🙂

Does anyone else intuitively do the rotars completely backwards for some reason? It is legit way easier to do rotars passing from low hand to high hand... took me a minute to even realize I was doing them opposite too though! lol

Not yet good sir. I have four props that I am making video tutorials for and the current video which will be out later this week is Fire Poi Lessons 1. Fire Staff Lessons 2 will be coming soon. Great tutorial :) but I've got one question to the Rotor: is there a particular reason to put the Hand with the thumbroll on top? because it feels alot less twistet for me when I do the Rotor with that hand underneath

You can do it with either hand on top or bottom:-)

Great tutorials! Do you practice with your actual fire hoop or do you have a separate practice hoop?

I used to practice with my fire staff but then made a practice staff after seeing how much damage dropping the staff causes to burned wicks even with protective covers.

@solouroboros10 жыл бұрын
Most good staffs are made from aircraft grade aluminum. If you're just practicing however, before you get into all the fancy gear go find yourself a broom handle that's the right height. The weight is much the same, and it's a cheap way to practice without getting wick, fancy collapsible staffs, and the other materials. Plus, if it breaks, it's just a broom handle. Happy spinning!
@RefillYourSoul5 жыл бұрын
Hi, great tutorial thx! ;-) please tell me how long does this staff have?
@TamedFire Жыл бұрын
I recommend staff height to be anywhere from your chin to your nose.

@shianeuf86926 жыл бұрын
Can these tricks be done in a simple bo staff or i necessarily need the weights on the tips of the staff?
@TamedFire6 жыл бұрын
Hi Shia, these can definitely be done with a bo staff as well. A bo staff has more of what we call a martial flow style to it as it's mostly used in the martial arts. The weights are to simulate the feel of what the actual fire staff feels like fully soaked with fuel.
@whyyousotriggered60504 жыл бұрын
For me it was easier to control with some weight at the end. Especially whe passing it through the thumbs it was easier to keep the staff for slipping

how heavy is your staff? And what weight would you recommend to a beginner? :-)
@TamedFire Жыл бұрын
As a fire performer I try to make the practice staff the same weight as the fire staff I will be using. imo the lighter the better but you can only decrease the weight so much. When soaked, wicks just have weight.

Can you turn on captions for those of us who are hard of hearing?
@goofygamerduck45834 жыл бұрын
who are hard of hearing? what XD
@LauraJayne644 жыл бұрын
Max Simons I’m hard of hearing for one. It is anyone with a hearing loss that is moderate to severe. When watching videos it is often hard to understand the words even with the volume raised. Closed captioning doesn’t cost anything and allows easier understanding for those of us with hearing difficulties.

The islanders I believe you are referring to practice a traditional style which is faster and less artistic. Modern is where it's at;-)
