You see Fire type attacks packs Super effective damage against 4 types(steel is a big 1) and has 6 resistance.....it has 3 weakness Water on the other hands 2x 3 types and resist 4 types..... with 2 weakness. So both are good. Looking at stabs fire type attacks can cause ailment like burn Scald only water type attack to do same thing..... Let's just say 1 thing Fire is damage specialist Water is tank specialist Grass is stall specialist..... I like hyper offensive playstyle so I stick with fire. And my favourite colour is red too Maybe yours blue....

if we are talking about anime then the writers have always been biased towards fire type starters, but when it comes to competitive battle like smogon then water types are one of the best, mega blastoise, greninja are uber tiers while only blaziken was the only one in ubers. so overall water types are effective in competitive battle, while in anime fire types are better excluding greninja
