Only the wealthy & city folks were able to have charred cloth as it was expensive. Woods runners were not going to use their cloths to start a fire so they relied on natural tinders from the landscape,charred punk wood, cat tails, horsehoof fungus, chaga & the list goes on. Cheers & happy fire lighting
