The Montgomery County Engine 718 was coming out of Baltimore City downtown Steadman station, wasn't it?? Why??

They were on a coverage assignment due to the Baltimore City Fire Fighters who had died in the line of duty on October 19th. the whole department was out of service for the funeral so they had different departments come in to provide coverage during the funeral services

It was! Like the other comment stated they were covering as Engine 23 while all BCFD members attended the funeral mass for one of their own but this was filmed on November 3rd

No they do serve a purpose, there are studies that show they are one of the most effective warning lights

I can confirm, after 11 years in the fire service, a roto ray and two mars 888 lights is the best traffic clearing light setup to date.

Are Roto-Rays common on fire trucks arcoss America?

A lot in the northern states. I was a Volunteer Lt for the City of Annapolis (Maryland) Eastport Co. 36 in the late 80's and Maryland and Pennsylvania VFD's use a lot.

Depends on the location, I wouldn’t say they are common but they are popping up more and more in recent deliveries
