The Fire tv cube is finally here with a October 25th release date. This means 2 things. 1: The Fire tv cube 2nd generation is about to have some crazy deals. 2: We need to buy this new device and review it. With no surprise there is some major upgrades in the Firecube 3. Increase speed, performance and design. YES and actual new design. Although there are some down sides, 1: no upgrade to 1gig Ethernet 2: Old fire tv os 7. With Amazon they have a poor record of upgrading OS in their old devices. I have the Nvidia Shield Pro 2019, the 2nd Generation FireTV Cube, the FireTV Stick 4 Max and the 2nd generation Roku Ultra. I use the Nvidia Shield Pro the most. It upscales video and is faster than the other 3 devices. And the one outstanding thing the Shield has that the others don't is a gigabit eithernet port. All my devices are wired. The gigabit ethernet for me, gives me the greatest performance coupled with the 2 USB ports for expanding storage and the endless updates from Nvidia, makes this a winner. But I'll see how the new FireTV Cube 3rd generation holds up in your hands-on review. As always, your coverage of all things Andriod is consistently first rate and very informative. I can't wait for your review of the new FireTV Cube!

TRUE. I still use mine as a gaming/emulation powerhouse. Recently got the Apple TV 4K but my 2015 shield is still much better at anything besides streaming. Can't see myself getting rid of it.

Issue with the older fire tv cube and the new cube, is ram and storage. Run a few app on the system and it starts to freeze up. NVIDIA offers more on both, no memory issues.

Still using 2 older Nvidia Shields, 2 Sony Bravia TVs with Google TV. My office/outdoor TV I have a Chromecast with Google TV 4K and a regular Fire TV stick. I'm sticking with the Android OS as my home assistant is Google. Great review and I might check it out to update one of my Shields

Only because it has wifi6E. BUT... unless you have a router that supports this technology, it's kind of pointless. They didn't really upgrade much besides a 20% better performance. Add 3g memory and perhaps 32g of ram and a gig Lan port and maybe I'd reconsider 🤷‍♂️ shield tv pro already has 3g memory and a better cpu.

AC3 (Dolby Digital)/ EAC3 (Dolby Digital Plus) /Atmos(DDP+JOC)/AC4(Atmos)/Dolby TrueHD(Atmos) Supports Atmos via Dolby TrueHD rather than the usual just DDP+JOC. Seems like a win to me, along with added AV1 support.

All I can say is time will tell with the Fire Tv Cube 3. I've had my Nvidia Shield for almost 5 years and is still going strong, where will the Fire Tv Cube 3 be in five years? Only time will tell. IMHO

I have a tcl Roku tv but don’t use the apps on it much. I have a 2nd gen cube and we are an Alexa home. We think it is a good device but we use a sofabaton remote in our setup. I bought my mother firecube TV2 last black Friday sales, she absolutely loves it with real-debrid. No complaints. As for me I have used the "round T95Q TV box" for 5yrs+ and it has never let me down. (If it's not broke don't fix it) I think the Firecube TV3 Is a beast when it comes to streaming, and I will consider buying one if/when they are near half price in Black Friday sales this year. Amazon is stuck in 2015. Only 2GB of RAM, bare minimum 16GB of storage, obsolete USB 2.0 ports (too slow and unreliable for storage) and another outdated port with the 10/100 Ethernet. No! I am sorry this thing can't compete with the Shield Pro. Hopefully Nvidia releases an upgraded Shield soon since Amazon does not appear to be serious with their supposed premium model.

It’s so laughable that I could get a Vape pen with a USB-C charging port on it for less than $50 but they couldn’t put USB-C on their newest fire TV cube. It’s kind of pathetic that you can’t even get USB-C for the price they’re making you pay for it.

I take exception with your comparison to the Nvidia. I owned several generations of the Fire tv units before I finally replaced them all with the Nvidia Shield, never to regret the upgrade. Even if the new Fire cube has electronics that are comparable the open architecture and general freedom from Amazon control and marketing is worth it. I've spent more hours fooling with Fire tv's and their various generations than I care to admit... there's something nice about a TV box that isn't always in need of a user mod or fix, and one that the user has control over.
