The thing that impresses me so much about this video every time is how alert the guys in the back are. The second they hear that there's smoke issuing all 3 start putting on their BA and hoods at the exact same time without even looking at each other or communicating.

FIREMAN RILEY . Brings back memories of my 4 years at HQ in the 70s.. I drove the flyer, a Dennis Rolls .The Runner another Rolls .The Second call motor , another Rolls .The Salvage motors , a Leyland super 6 and an Albion Chieftain. At times I was rostered on the district truck or canteen and often drove the blue bird (the supervsing officer) . I had my turn in the Control and relay room . I retired in 2008 aged 60 after 33 years and still have the odd dream of still in the brigade. Great blokes great job.

This is a brilliant video. Now condense it down to 30 to 60 seconds and get your Public Relations Department to put it on commercial television as an advert, so that pedestrians and road users can be educated on how to respond when they are approached by an Emergency Vehicle, such as a FRNSW Appliance.

Interesting bit at the end saying you are obliged to follow road rules. Contradicts what we see many members of the public saying including those who claim to be emergency workers. It does however match advice of NSW Ambulance.

People really annoy me. Siren lights = move left out of the way omg easy. This means these guys are on the way to save lives. 🤷♀️
@tomanypeople98783 жыл бұрын
FIREMAN RILEY The trafic can be very unpredictable and split second decisions are made when responding under siren , the driver should never undertake on the left as other drivers can be confused by the siren and move left . If the trafic cannot move left or stuck in trafic or at lights and the appliance is unable to cross to the otherside of the road the siren is turned off , flashing lights on , so the trafic in front doesn't panic and move into the intersection. I have seen collisions involving siren panic . In the 70's HQ's Leyland salvage motor had a rotary 12 volt siren on a 24 volt system . When responding , people would block their ears because of the obnoxious squeal and eventually collided with a woman in a car , who was confusion.

Thank you for These video's. I was going to the Doctor's in Victoria @6:15am doing the right thing, approaching a round about going straight ahead, on the left first car stopped next minute omg a big 4 door ute appeared in front of me, he didn't give way, I hit my brakes, BANG my airbags deployed, smoke my total front end was gone, his car had just a minor dent, next minute Ambulance, police, firefighters were there. I was in shock and treated for it. His insurance covered all costs, Just a warning please all make sure when you have right of way at a roundabout the cars on your left are going to stop. Thank you S.E.S, Paramedics, Police, Firefighters. You came comforted me, charged the guy who was not paying attention or concentrating and who caused me PTSD. I can't drive after 1 year and 4 months. Who ever drives me ends up a nervous wreak because I am constantly telling them "Brake" "omg" "Stop" e.t.c .. To all who have been in an accident or who have lost their lives in a car accident that wasn't their fault. "You are in the arm's of the Angel's" I should have died that day but I walked away, something saved me if you had of seen my crv. My big sister my Gaudian Angel, my dad. Something. I Thank you for having this channel I didn't get to Say Thank you to the Paramedics, Police, Firefighters, all who helped me.. THANK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL..I SALUTE YOU ALL! ❤❤❤ 🚒🚔🚑💞💐 Be Safe all

Fireman Riley . Traffic in the city is no worse today than in the 70's .Pre GPS HQ drivers had to learn all streets and lanes and the directions of one way streets . In the flyer room next to the Inspectors office was a circular map of HQ's station area on the wall . We would test each others knowledge to pass the time where the flyer crew would sit in 4 chairs . The driver No 1 a senior fireman and 2 lesser ranked fireman. In 1975 the Flyer , a Rolls was written off on the corner of Elizabeth Street and Eddie Ave . The officer was seriously injured and spent the rest of his career on light duties. 2 Salvage motors collided with cars , women drivers with radios and confused by siren echo in tall buildings.

Watching so many responding videos, I can see a pattern. Funny how quickly people move out of the way when Police sirens are approaching behind them but don't even budge when an Ambo or Fire truck is approaching, typical human nature is despicable.
