The BF4 Javelin used to have trick where you could shoot one missile and interrupt the lock on so the missile would continue flying upwards and reload a second missile in the meantime. If you than lock on to the target again the first missile would resume its path while you fire the second missile and both missiles would hit the target in quick succession. With this technique attack boats had a really bad time until they changed it so the first missile would detonate as soon a second one would be fired.

The AWS is not just a cool different assault rifle. It's overbuilt to sustain more fire before being adversely affected than a standard rifle, in terms of gas system and barrel. This was done to a limited degree to the M4 with the SOCOM profile barrel as opposed to the standard, as an example. If this weren't a thing, it literally just would have made the weapon heavier for no reason. But sometimes SOF want to just dump mag after mag with the standard carbine, so the heavier profile barrel was produced and adopted.

Straight pull on a bolt action is great.. Basically the grooves and the turning of the bolt itself is rather free flowing and the lever/knob has a twisting motion to it kind of like a door handle which acts as what locks the bolt in place and prevent it from moving.. So very much viable, doable, commercially available and most definitely is tactically viable on a precision Rifle to allow quicker follow up shots, which allows for more reliable overwatch suppression or simply let's you get more rounds down range/on target/s causing more chaos which makes it harder for them to even try to pinpoint your location, like you know, a semi auto or the "standard straight pull" just is not as accurate as your bolt action with proper locking lugs, so when you can have the accuracy reliability of a bolt action but the speed of standard straight pull.. Its to be preferred.. It is often greatly liked by those given overwatch to if they know that the person in the birds nest is a decent shot. Had my Winchester 70 - Bifrost fitted with one of those straight pull conversions for the bolt and it was amazing.

The reason basically nobody uses something like the Ares MWS with belt feed is because in real life, even assuming an identical reload time, the more time you get firing over reloading goes down once you hit 30-40 rounds. This means if you don't have an assistant gunner, belt loading gives you essentially nothing over magazine feed unless your literal only concern is one time "how many rounds before I reload" which isn't useful for much except the defense on occasion and maybe mass shootings. This is why the USMC replaced the M249 with the M27. In all scenarios except the defensive, it was straight worse sitting in the rifle squad than the M27, and heavier. The M240 and MMGs in general are operated with people loading the weapon while you fire it very often, so they actually reap the benefits of the belt feed.

There is one scenario where a straight pull bolt in a precision rifle is needed, and that's if someone is forced to take multiple shots while in camouflaged cover without relocating. Yes, I know, it's something a sniper is not supposed to do, but things sometimes happen where a very minimal amount of reloading motion would be necessary for the shooter to survive.

I got to shoot a AK5 prototype in the 80s at Bring your kid to work day. My father was working for the FMV back then :)

The straight pull bolt-action is possible as seen with the Mannlicher M1895 but I believe converting a normal bolt-action to a straight pull would be impossible due to the usage of the bolt.

A 20 minute video of Jonathan reviewing bf4 guns? Fuck yes

I always thought the straight pull bolt was weird since BF3, since they still clearly turn the bolt.

Correction, the gun is in .357 BUT... Chiappa labels their revolvers 20DS/40DS/60DS And they refer to barrel length 2in/4in/6in So this isn't talking about caliber, this is referring to the correctly modeled 40DS with 4 inch barrel

....the Chiappa Rhino does come in .40 S&W, not just a magnum cartridge or ".357". All models (40DS, 50DS, 60DS, 200D(S)) have a .357 Magnum, .40 S&W, and 9MM Luger options

There have been several straight pull bolt actions (K31, K11, Ross).

Excellent video as always from Jonathan. Would love to see a video of him talking about some of BF4 attachments. (Sights, grips, etc)

One of the coolest things about battlefield 4 is that if you run duckbill with canted iron sights, the spread will actually rotate with the gun

The Aek 971 is super popular because in game it's the most accurate AR and high fire rate. It's as accurate as balance allows like the Javelin not being fire and forget. Love these vids mate your doing an awesome job.

I wish we could hear his thoughts on how the DAO 12 had the realistic clockwork reload where you put in a shell and turn the winding key a notch over.

i believe the swiss k31 actually had a straight pull action, however in-game that "straight pull" mod only let you rechamber a round while aiming down the scope
