In this video you will see my friend JD Brewer building a platform for a local factory.
JD loves to use Fireball Squares for fabricating jobs like this and he has a whole bunch of them along with lots of clamps.

I got the aluminum fireball squares, nice and light, for being mobile, but I recommend the cast steel one because my aluminum gets nick up from bumping around. Still happy with them though .

Had a buddy say” I wish someone made a pad or something small that would protected your fingers for heat?! Me: someone does? He’s a mechanic or a welder but has to work on hot engines sometime. I showed him your TIG finger video. Thanks for sharing.

I make a lot of mobile Aluminum platforms. To control distortion I will put a slight camber in the platform. This gives it extra strength when in use. By the way thanks for all your tips. We never weld hand rail directly onto the Checker Plate because it reduces strength and lifts the checker plate while in use.

Hints on using fans set them up to draw air away from you. It creates just enough air flow to stay cool.

I had a big wall mounted swiveling fan in my shop and I would have to time my stich welds and tacks to avoid the wind.... 😂 Funny things us welders do to stay cool...... had to turn it off to weld out though. 👍🏼🇦🇺

When I was learning to tig, it was always coming out like crap. After an hour or so of troubleshooting, I discovered that I too was running a fan but had no idea it was blowing away my shielding gas. It was frustrating as hell not knowing why I was welding so badly.

I discovered them a few months ago. These things are hungry beasts. But sometimes I don't like the flexibility of the backing plate when grinding out a weld, it eats from the sides of the weld as well, but not at the toe of the weld.

If you do much of this work the fireball squares will pay for themselves quickly.

I would have put the kickplates like 5 centimeters higher. You have them at the bottom now, but then you get the narrow part not painted en it will stop water from flowing away. So it will rust pretty quickly. But a great video as always

In my opinion , Cast iron for when you need the weight and when welding is very close to the square. but aluminum for when you carry several on site
