The scene, where they stood together at the ballet theater reminds me of another LGBT film from Taiwan called Your Name Engreaved Herein. Also it seems like a few other LGBT films use ocean/swimming in their scenes, probably to portray freedom.

In the actual novel, Roman didn’t die due to going to war in Afghanistan. Yet, I read it but couldn’t tell if he committed suicide, died to sickness, or in a fire as translating the original text made it harder for me to understand. Does anyone knows?

Luisa had it all, the whole situation had an easy fix. She could have suggested a deal, she helps them while they share a three way relationship. She could have kept both men she was attracted to and they would have totally loved selflessness and her. Her kid would have been loved and taken cared of by both men she loved and them two could have continued loving each other without a problem. The timing for them was bad but an arrangement like this would have made everyone happy including Luisa for sure because their lives would have been enriched.

sounds good, but I think that neither Luisa nor Sergey would want to share their loved one with someone else. Therefore, the end of this film learned the way it turned out. I think Roman's death could have been avoided. but Sergei and Louise's friendship would have ended anyway.
