Trying out the Firebox Freestyle in the Firepit 6 configuration. Field testing the LT Wright Bandit a SMKW exclusive design, an excellent EDC fixed Blade. It was a very cold day with a slight amount of wind and snow.
Along the way I show where to look for dry tinder to build a quick fire even in these cold temps. Simple tips for winter survival with minimal gear.

I just watched you make a fire and was so at peace. Zero commentary, just the crackle of the flames. Keep it up man.

Agree! One of my favorite things to do when I need to clear my mind is just go for a hike and enjoy a small fire and hot drink!

Could you do a proper review on the bandit knife. I’ve been wanting one. I like all the specks. Just wondering how it feels in hand and maybe a comparison to other smaller knife handles knives.

I will try and get one out, I want to take it on a few fishing trips and use it processing game. It is a great little knife. Probably my favorite next to my ESEE cr2.5. Size is a bit of a compromise between edc and field knife. The steel has been great so far, holds edge well and no staining/rust. It is a little slick and round in the handle, when using for heavy tasks it gets a little cramp inducing.

@@Scablands_Scavenger thanks for the extra info. I could see where the round handle could be problematic. I also agree with AEB-L stainless. I like the metal.

What are your thoughts on the Smith and Son Shoal compared to the LT Wright Bandit? Both look to be great little edc blades. Is the Bandit a little more comfortable? Which one is the best slicer, edge holding etc. Thanks for the vid!

@Scablands_Scavenger Жыл бұрын
Short answer would be, they both are about the same quality and edge retention. Shoal is very thin, light small in hand, narrow handle. It slices well and makes a good skinner. Not good for heavy work, the blade is very thin, handle not quite enough for heavy cutting. The Bandit is a great all around utility blade, small but not too small, 90 spine is good. handle is fairly comfortable but a little small for heavy use extended periods. Grind is good utility, not super slicey but thick enough to use for firewood prep. The Shoal (for me) is excellent as a second no-weight carry in the pack for skinning/cleaning game, the Bandit is a multi role EDC or small field/belt knife. Hope that helps!

@@Scablands_Scavenger Wow, thank you sir. Great bit of feedback. I own the Axiom and an LT Wright Littler pouter, both are in AEB-L - great knives, great companies. I was wondering about how lightweight the Shoal might be. I just ordered the Bandit from SMKW. Not a huge fan of removable scales. Thanks again

Was that a birds` nest you put in the bottom of your fire pit?
@Scablands_Scavenger
@Scablands_Scavenger Жыл бұрын
Yes, I borrowed a little from the bottom of a nest at 0:53. It is one of the best dry tinder available. If you only take a little the birds can replenish when they return to nest in the spring without much fuss.
