Thank you very much Mark! That was a very nicely done presentation / explanation of the Firebox Freestyle System. Your viewers are lucky have found such a gem. You are the stove whisperer. As I've watched your videos it's easy to see that your experience backs up your words. Information with integrity is what makes your channel so valuable 👍😎🙏 I am editing a trip video now but as soon as it's finished I plan to put together an instructional video that will make the freestyle processes much more streamlined. We have figured out a few simple tricks that make a world of difference compared to just going for it. It's one of those things that can seem tricky until you know it's secrets, then it's a piece of cake.

Hi Steve. Thank you so much for your kind words. I am having fun with the Freestyle with more videos to come. The next to be recorded is the Bushcraft-8 and Firepit-8. I will be demonstrating the easy way of connecting the two stoves together as well. Having said that, I am sure your demonstration video will be much more precise. Thank you again for providing me your latest innovation is stove design.

Wow, I have long wanted a med sized firebox stove this is very interesting. I would definitely go for a single but the fact you can also build a small firepit would make this a great kit to throw in the truck or boat camping box. I often use the UCO flatpack grills but the lack of airflow makes for a smoky fire. Excellent overview Mark, thanks!

Just a suggestion, drill 4-5 holes in each side of the UCO and you’ll have better air flow. I won’t substitute the firebox but after all you already have the UCO, I did that to mine and is much better.

@@MarkYoungBushcraft I could use it two ways, (1) use the FBF under the Petromax and use the Petromax as a grill or (2) use the Petromax as a fire pit with FBF on it keeping the fuel in a tidy concentrated circle and block some wind and use a tripod or adjustable fire grate/grill to cook with, this would be my preferred method. I cut some spare Petromax legs so it’s only 100mm (4”) off the ground to make it work better with a tripod and hanging grill.

Great informational review as always Mark. If you could only have one stove, I can see this would be the perfect modular adjustable stove for all occasions. Since I already have many stoves this doesn't work for me. I see a learning curve to make the different configurations. I know Steve has great designs, great products, but this one not for me. I have several Firebox Stoves and pans which are great! I still have my (fake?) Picogrill's I purchased on Amazon and for the weight and functionality they are best for me. I have had at least 100 fires and they are doing great. As always, thanks for continuing your reviews!

hmm, so only four sides in the large pack. Wonder why it's called a kit? I was thinking it would contain 8 sides. ~ I got the Nano to use with a Trangia as well. Seems a good match when trying to remain gossamer. ~~ I looked at your tripod video and it got me thinking of my heavy iron three piece from a smithy. It looks like you use a cup/small pot with a bail handle...which got me thinking of my pigtail iron hooked standout to use with one vertical length...sooo adjustable on the fly. I see some make them in SS rod and 10.5" long, for a lantern or a bailed pot. Longer would be nice..maybe make one if find the right rod material? (search pigtail lantern hook) Small fire any which way(Dakota pit too?), grab the proper dia. straight branch to stick in earth, and pop on the pigtailed adjustable hook and you're cooking in the bailed pot. Bam! ~ How gossamer of kit is that? ~ tips me hat.

Coffee amounts differ for most people but a good place to start is 15 grams for each 250 ml of water. The brew method will also affect strength. A French press will be stronger than a pour-over, etc. Best to start with the 15grams and adjust from there. I personally prefer the Code Blk but at home my wife and I compromise by blending it with the Riot. Hope this helps

Interesting! Honestly I've always thought the nano a joke, and the gen2 to be a small stove... On the other hand the scout has looked like a handy unit, just a pain to pack at times... but its not designed to pack. This is, as I said, an interesting size. When in the 6 panel or 8 panel configurations, do they still simply fold flat to store, (albeit thicker) or do you have to take them apart again each time?

Morning Mark! I think an in between size is a good idea, and to be able to make a monster stove when you want is pretty awesome, but I wonder about the fire grates. Apart from looking cheap (though given that you need like 5 of them, that’s understandable), I wonder if there will be too much air flow. Probably with the bigger sticks, to small logs in the lager set ups it would be good, but in the regular configuration, would there be too much? I was planning of getting the titanium full size, but maybe I’ll wait and see how this one turns out. Well, you have plenty of material here to do several videos. Now get out there and start cooking! 😀

Feed ports look awfully small.. can't fit anything more than a twig by the looks of it. Also, having feed ports on almost every side would let embers spill out in every direction. For people who use these sorts of stoves as a safer alternative to a campfire, it defeats the purpose. The grate ruggedness isn't very confidence inspiring either, especially if used as a hard burning camp fire. Modularity is nice I suppose. Three sided seems completely pointless though.

The shownotes prove why metric is superior to imperial, and I say this as a son of the land that gave us imperial measurements. The single-stove is 675 grams, the configurations are not given in grams. But that's okay, imperial measurements were used for single-stove and other configurations, so some guesstimates can be made by comparing the imperial units. So single-stove is 1lb 7.8oz and the configurations are 8 through 27 ounces. So to make at-a-glance comparison you need your, erm, sixteen times table memorised. As I say, as an Englishman I don't give the French for very much, but I doff my Parisian beret to them regarding metric.
