Late Fall Bushcraft Camping. Goat Backpack to Pristine 9K Lake for Firebox Stove Trout With My Dogs

I had my goats (Bill & Levi) pack my favorite Bushcraft Spain Camping gear into a remote high country lake only to find it had frozen over. Luckily, the next day brought some warmer weather and I was able to do some trout fishing. What fun! Good fishing and delicious food to be enjoyed in this primitive serene location. When so much of life seems outside of our control I feel a sense of reassurance coming back to a place finding it completely unchanged, seemingly timeless. Being a part of these pure places seems to unwind some of the brain damage that accumulates as we progress through life. I come home feeling more grounded, with a freshly calibrated perspective that keeps my priorities in line with my values. So I can keep trying my best to be a good father, husband and fellow human-being.
How did I train my pack goats?
I got Bill and Levi when they were still being bottle-fed so I could create a bond with them to become the leader of our herd. I've been putting small light weight packs on them and taking them for long walks from the very beginning. They instinctively feel a need to be close to me and won't let me out of their site. If at any time they lose track of me they immediately become panicked and start bleating out in an attempt to relocate me. I call back and they come running so they can once again feel the perceived safety of my presence. They can carry 25% of their body weight and you don't need to bring any type of feed for them. They easily fit in the back of a pickup truck. They are the perfect pack animal for me.
