Anthony Woods has the unenviable distinction of being the only firefighter on the Brady List maintained by the State Attorney's Office for the Ninth Judicial District of Florida. At the time of this incident, Woods was a firefighter with Orange County Fire Rescue.
According to a summary written by prosecutors, on December 12, 2021, the victim was exiting the 408 onto East Colonial Drive when, according to his statement, a Grey Hyundai cut him off. The victim continued to drive toward his original destination, but realized he was being followed by the vehicle that cut him off. The victim, fearing that he was being followed, took a different route to determine whether he was being followed. The Hyundai continued to follow the victim until the Hyundai maneuvered a in such a way to block the victim's vehicle in the roadway. At that point, then-firefighter Anthony Woods exited his vehicle and walked toward the victim's vehicle... with a black gun in his right hand.
Woods then stated "you almost hit me and I'm a police officer / firefighter." The victim then drove away and called 911. At the exit/entrance of the neighborhood, Woods caught up to the victim and again parked his vehicle in front of the victim's vehicle. Woods exited his vehicle again, overheard tje victim on the phone with 911, told the victim "don't take my tag," and returned to his vehicle to leave the scene. Woods is a firefighter. Woods also called 911 to report a reckless driver. Police interviewed Woods at Fire Station 87 where Woods initially stated that he and the victim got into a verbal argument due to the victim's reckless driving. Woods stated that it was actually the victim who was following him. It was apparent to police that Woods was lying, and Woods ultimately changed his story and admitted to following the victim and to brandishing a gun when approaching the victim's vehicle.
Woods was arrested on suspicion of falsely personating a law enforcement officer during the commission of a felony, as well as aggravated assault with a firearm. Prosecutors charged Woods with falsely personating an officer and improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon. As part of a plea deal, the former charge was dropped, and adjudication was withheld on the latter charge. Woods was sentenced to six months supervised probation, credit for time served, a required firearms safety course, and minor fines/fees. Woods resigned his position with Orange County Fire Rescue on December 21, 2021.
Prosecutor notes state that the victim feared that he would be shot, and that the victim had previously been in trouble with the law and had received significant penalties for that incident, and was consequently less inclined toward leniency for Mr. Woods. The victim ultimately told prosecutors that he believed in forgiveness, and that if Woods had apologized he wouldn't have pressed charges - but that if he had had a gun it could have been an entirely different outcome. Court records indicate that in 2015, the victim in this case had been arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a firearm. That charge was ultimately dropped. In 2020, the victim had been arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor battery. He pleaded no contest and agreed to pay restitution.

As a firefighter, he didn’t think they wouldn’t believe him for a second. Hubris is a hell of a drug. I’m not a cop, but I’ve done fire/EMS for 17 years, and was a SWAT medic so I know how different cops treat most people. They treated this guy like one of their team, giving him just enough room to hang himself. He just destroyed his entire career as well as embarrassed his department.

I used to drive Northern California to Southern California every few months and the big wheelers would always cut me off going way over the speed limit then reducing their speed when they got in front of me. It used to infuriate me, but one day I got off to get some gas and I was so upset that I told myself that I would never get that upset again, it was not worth it. I used to be a firefighter. I'd tell people I was a firefighter, sometimes I say I am "technically" still a firefighter as I am certified and still have my certifications, just not with a department at the moment. But If I would've called my Lt, and said "I'm going to jail" I would not be welcomed back into the department. Regardless of what happened, I remember one of my old captains saying, (not directed towards anyone just in conversation) "If any member of (department) gets arrested they're done" But pretending you're a cop, come on man. You're a firefighter, go apply to be a cop if you want to be a cop. It's a disgrace.

Well, even if his department had a union, he’s definitely not unionized yet (he’s taking nationals literally the following day) but the departments in Florida are unionized and you’re inducted after your rookie year and during your rookie year (probation period) this would be true but after that it’s wild here. There are firefighters here with drug addictions, multiple DUI’s, multiple drinking/drunk/ high on the clock, domestic assaults, and even multiple felonies who STILL have their jobs. Basically impossible to get fired after your rookie year which is why they are soooooooooo tough on rookies. They want to weed out the a-holes before they get trapped with them.

We are blessed (IMO, yes I realize many don't agree) to still have the individual 2A right in this country and with that must come ultimate respect for that right and responsibility. You never brandish your weapon unless life or serious bodily harm is being threatened. If you can't control your emotions and end up abusing that right just to intimidate/threaten someone who at worst cut you off in traffic or drove crazy, you don't deserve it and can't be trusted with it. This dude is extremely lucky he didn't catch the felony charge in this case and lose that right for the rest of his life. Maybe he should have. The only reason I say "maybe" is that he didn't point it at the kid. Im guessing a clean record, not actually pointing it, and getting lucky w/ his prosecutor/judge were the only reasons he lucked out on that and was able to get the felony held back and keep his 2A rights. I hope he learns from this and gets his emotions under control, and if he does so I hope he can go back to helping the public as a fireman. Hope the victim can stay out of trouble as well, he's been charged with suspicion of aggravated assault with a firearm in the past as well according to the description. You have to control your emotions. If someone does something idiotic in traffic, take their plate and report them but it's not good for anyone involved if you get all enraged and escalate things. It's not worth it.
