I'm a Christian and this song is a song by a Christian band. However the fact that there are religious wars in the comment section is stupid. If you like the song for whatever reason than good for you. If an atheist likes it for the music then food for them. If a Christian likes it for the spiritual meaning then food for them as well. People should just enjoy the music. That's my opinion. In other news this song rocks

Tbh, this song's lyrics can be interpreted for any type of relationship. Religious or not. At its core it's a song about someone going through a struggle that has them so shaken, and feeling abandoned that they just want the one that gives them the most comfort to let them know they aren't alone. The religous debates/ arguments revilving around it are silly.

I think the line "How can you turn your back on me..." is referring to how we feel sometimes. Even the greatest "pillars of faith" like Spurgeon, Lewis, Graham, etc... have felt times where they've wondered if God is really there. We all have a little bit of doubt. It'll never leave till we hit heaven.

Wow. That’s an amazing testimony. For me it’s “stay by my side if you leave me I will die.” Going thru the worst anxiety that doesn’t seem to have a root cause. It’s getting better but I just want it gone now - and for good. I’m praying for healing and peace. Not gonna lie prayer didn’t seem to work at the beginning but I kept going at it and it’s working. I pray falling asleep.

When I hear this song, for some reason I just start picturing Jesus as he was beaten and fell down with the cross, and when he was nailed saying, 'My God, Why have you forsaken me?' (Lost again, I'm calling your name...how can you turn your back on me when you know my pain.).. I don't know why, just what this song reminds me of.

As an Atheist, I'm glad I have the option to listen to this song without feeling pressured into believing 'Jesus is speaking to me' or 'God is saving my soul'. Life is hard, every struggle I've gone through I've come out a better person thanks to hard work and my loved ones keeping me up - I've never needed spirituality. However, some people rely on their faith and I can respect that - and their awesome music taste. :)

your comment made me cry because i have been there for a long time it took one night 2 friends and a youth group to stop me and make me realise that the last chance i gave god to help me , was the one night God pulled me from my missery and hurt and healed my heart. he still continues to do so .:)

So if you passionately pursue the relationship and the direction God wants you to go, then He will make you a beacon of light on a hill. Your job at this point, one of the main reasons to be a Christian, is to just love other people. You don't force people to believe or condemn them when they don't. If you share with them the joy of being in a relationship with God that is deeper than the relationship that you have with your spouse, they will thirst after it with a desperate need.

Im the guy that everyone comes to with problems and somehow God always manages to help me fix them. At one point i had an ex who was going through some tough times. well i showed her one of fireflights songs and she loved it - but shes atheist. she interpreted it slightly different and surprised me by comparing ME with God. Its amazing what Fireflight has done for me. I know this band has helped me in my time of need as well as others and for that, I thank you.

Exactly. And really, it's a Unity. When people focus on the "religion" parts of it, it can get way out of hand very fast. That's a big reason why most people view Christianity negatively. I think what most religious singers miss is that god doesn't need to be in the song for it to be about him. This is music that doesn't preach. It is simply about someone who finds comfort in something. Be it god or not, it means that the song can reach people no matter who they are. I believe that to be the true test of faith. To be able to follow your own beliefs but not to be consumed by them.

Being a non-religious Witch, this doesn't have anything to do with God for me. However, this speaks perfectly about my relationship with my mother. I suffer from different illnesses and my mother, although she has tried to get help for me, wasn't able to listen to my emotions and couldn't handle the pain I feel. She is obsessed with all of her children being Christians and now that she knows that I do witchcraft I feel that she views herself, and I as a failure despite all the good it has done for me. I don't feel like I have a mother because she only loves me as her offspring and not as a person with their own thoughts, feelings, and beliefs.

As an atheist, I can agree that as long as a Christian rock band doesn't use the words "God" or "Jesus" in their lyrics, then they're OK with me. Whether their message is about God or not, as a non-believer I need to be able to interpret this song in other ways. And Fireflight does a great job at allowing me to do just that. I like this song and I also like Skillet, both religious bands. I've listened to Skillet for the longest of time putting a different meaning than God into it and nobody got hurt because of it. The same applies to this song. It's up to interpretation depending on your beliefs
