If you didn't know, Ray Stevenson, the actor who portrayed Firefly in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, among many other great roles, passed away in a hospital last Sunday, May 21st, 2023.
I've created this video as a tribute to Ray Stevenson, as Firefly was easily my favorite role of his. So wether it be an awesome action scene, a badass one liner, or even just marching alongside fellow Cobra members, here's the best of Ray Stevenson's incredible Firefly.
Before Stevenson's portrayal of the character, Firefly was practically a nobody. Just a background character who would show up here and there every so often and rarely get to do something of substance.
That was until Ray Stevenson came along, and really made Firefly stand out. With his accent, attitude, and explosive weapons that are literally just robot fireflies hence the name, Ray Stevenson brought Firefly to life like never before.
Part of the reason I love G.I. Joe: Retaliation so much is Firefly, who is one of my favorite characters as well.
Rest well, Ray Stevenson. We all miss you.

Please read the description. Rest well Ray Stevenson. You where a true legend. Ray Stevenson Firefly Trivia: -Ray Stevenson, in preparation for the role, went out and read alot of G.I. Joe comics featuring Firefly, so that he could get a good feel and understanding for the character. -Ray Stevenson's Firefly used to be a G.I. Joe member! According to Stevenson himself, Firefly used to be a G.I. Joe explosives expert, and betrayed G.I. Joe in favor of the organization that would one day be Cobra because of "Better money, sexier costumes, less military garb." -Stevenson found the scenes where he got to "beat up" Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock) to be really fun. Not many get to "beat up" Johnson in movies! Just goes to show the absolute unit that Firefly was.

2. I mean, the movie lefts that pretty clear in the 2:22 minute, We know Rex was also a Intel Military, so, where else he would met him if Firefly is "His Old Friend"

@@ArcTrooperRod-269You know, I always thought that was in reference to when he was still The Doctor, and that they just met doing some M.A.R.S terrorists work together. The idea that they actually met when the Commander was still just Rexford is cool!

As soon as I heard that he passed away, I said to myself, "What? The only guy besides Karl Urban to beat up Dwayne Johnson? Well that's sad."

Ive thought the same thing before! Honestly, Firefly sometimes seems more like Zartans brother than Zartans actual brother, Zandar. 😆

Awesome action sequences! That little firefly gadget that he uses is cool too. He was too young and seemed to be in great shape to go this soon, God rest Rays soul

This movie is as far as I know the only time he uses a gadget like that. It gives a reason for a hardened terrorists to have a seemingly harmless name like "Firefly" though. 😅 Yeah, he was gone way to soon, and so sudden. No cause has been given yet, all we know is that he was in a hospital. I pray it wasn't anyway painful.

7:12 HOW TUFF IS THIS GUY? He litterally broke a Motorbike Helmet with his bear hands

Not to mention the fact that HE DEFEATED ROADBLOCK. The only thing that stopped from killing him was Flint in the car, but even then, he tanked a car hit, and still was able to get back up almost immediately, and hopped on his motorcycle to speed away!

He was the best part of the movie for me, and while it may be a small nit pick, I really wish he had the camo of his original costume to make him stand out even more (although, he might have seemed to similar to Storm Shadow or the other Cobra troops in that case).
