Have you changed any pickups on your Fireflys? I have an FFLP Classic I want to install coil tap. The best price for tge whole setup I could find are Epiphone ProBuckers for about $75. Are you familiar with any pickups that would be suitable at that price point?
@BazonBlades9 ай бұрын
@bobholst874 , I haven't changed the pickups in any of my FF's yet. Although I do plan to change pups in two of them. The FFLP in this video is getting an EMG ZW set eventually. My FFST is getting a total change using Guitar Fetish parts. It is getting a new hum/hum pickguard, pickups, and complete wiring harness. The GF parts will cost about $100.00 total and feature their quick connect system so anyone can do the install. Check out Guitar Fetish. Their pickups have a good reputation and are budget priced. www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-Guitar-Pickups_c_7.html

Hey I am curious, about how much does this guitar weigh? I really love the look of les pauls, but the weight is always an important factor for me
@BazonBlades Жыл бұрын
Good question....My example weighs 8.4 lb. It feels very solid/substantial but not heavy for what it is. This model features a body 1/4" thinner than a standard LP. It is basically an ESP/LTD Eclipse body with a standard Gibson feeling neck. Although I think the fretboard radius is closer to 14" rather a more traditional 12". It's a very interesting guitar for me because I have owned both Gibson LP's and ESP Eclipse models. It's definitely the bastard child of the two. My older gen FFLP is straight up an LP Standard clone with full thickness and weighs in almost a pound more. Say about 9.2 lbs.

@BazonBlades Жыл бұрын
@thinktwice8860 , it's pretty much a blank canvas for modding. And honestly, it feels "worth" modding. Worth investing in. It's hard not to talk about the belly cut and neck joint. They are such radical changes for a LP type guitar. The giant building block neck joints on LP's are a major reason I typically play "super Strats."
@thinktwice8860 Жыл бұрын
@@BazonBlades I usually only modded Mexican Fender Strats, because I could usually find them for $200 to $250. I’ve never had a LP style axe that I wanted to mod. Real Gibby LP’s are too damn expensive to have a woops, and Epi’s have that thick poly coat, which I’m not that crazy about, and still cost at least double the Firefly for a used one!
@BazonBlades Жыл бұрын
@thinktwice8860 , the used market is still insane anyway. But I get what you are saying. As far as poly finishes go.....I honestly don't have a preference. As long as the guitar doesn't feel dumbed down or dead, I don't mind poly. Although I do not want a guitar with a glossy poly finish on the neck.

@BazonBlades Жыл бұрын
I agree, that's a long list of killer features for 2 bill$.....Just be prepared to deal with all the common little issues that all budget guitars can have. For example, the guitar in this video has at least one high fret. I knew there could be issues before I bought, so as long as it is something I can handle, it's not a big deal. It was a great excuse to buy some specialty tools that I had dragged my feet on. But little things like this can add further investment and higher cost. Especially if you can't do the work yourself. That said, I haven't seen anything yet more serious than a high fret on any of my three FF's. Although my first FFLP has the old, low output and microphonic pickups as well. But I knew that up front.

Sadly I appear to have gotten one of the bad ones, so I've sent Guitars Garden an email requesting an RMA and a return label. Arrived with the action far too high and needing intonation. I soon found that I couldn't intonate the silly thing -- the bridge didn't have sufficient range unless I raised up the action to an unplayable level or tightened the truss rod so much that the neck was distinctively bowed and even then, I couldn't get some strings to intonate. I have their FFMN and found it to be a pretty good guitar to set up so I don't know what went wrong with this one. Too bad, it is a beautiful guitar.
@BazonBlades Жыл бұрын
Ok, before you give up on intonating it, take a look at the three lower bridge saddles. They should be reversed to allow extended range. In my example, the bridge is set up incorrectly. The saddles on the low side aren't reversed, so I am losing intonation range. Just that little bit can make all the difference. I will have to flip those three saddles so I can intonate correctly. Honestly, this is the first TOM equipped guitar I have ever owned that the saddles weren't flipped from the factory. I think this is kinda like the last batch of FFTL's and FFST's where the coil taps were wired backwards. I look at this price point as "adventure guitar buying." You never know what you will get. The challenge is honing your essential skills set as a guitarist. This type of thing is part of that skills set. Especially at this extremely low price point. I mean, c'mon, this price point is laughably low. This kind of thing is a given. It may be worth taking a second look at. Look at it as a challenge. Don't accept real defects. But the fine tuning that comes with these cheap a$$ guitars is all part of the journey.
@whoobibi Жыл бұрын
@@BazonBlades Thanks for the advice. Yes, I know just what you mean, I have a Xaviere and an Epiphone LP. The problem here is that the intonation is flat, not sharp. So I have insufficient range to move the saddle towards the neck. I hadn't really thought about flipping the bridge -- the screws are supposed to face the neck. Huh. So if I face them away from the neck, I have enough range to move the saddles towards the nut maybe? That's so crazy though, it means they did do something wrong if that works. LOL. That's crazy enough I may try it, but I wonder how it will impact intonation elsewhere.
@whoobibi Жыл бұрын
Didn't work either. I think there's just something wrong with the bridge, I think the scale is off. Oh well. Back it goes.
@BazonBlades Жыл бұрын
@whoobibi well that sucks. Sorry to hear that. It's unfortunate that issues like that are more common at such a low price point.
@whoobibi Жыл бұрын
@@BazonBlades the return went off without a hitch so I have no complaints. The guitar was about $200 so I imagine if a bad one gets through it isn't like you are out $2500. My FFMN from Firefly has been a very good experience by comparison.
@frankanthonypascarella2620 Жыл бұрын
Just bought one everything looked great ... until I tried to change the strings. The strings on the guitar were bad so I bought a set of 10's ... 10 to 46 nothing crazy. The Les Paul I got came with locking tuners. I made sure I released the locking device all the way. I had a tough time getting the E, A, and D string out the G, B, and E were not so bad. When I tried to thread the E string "46" it would not thread through the hole. After further investigation I noticed that the stem of the tuner did not extend far enough up to expose the eye of the string hole. Some of the holes were half and some less than that. I could not put the strings on at all. They used a much lighter gage and still must have had a hell of a time getting them on. I reach out the company to return the guitar according to their policy and have been given a hard time. These people do not understand and or speak English well at all. Still fighting with them. I also notices that the thickness of the head stock is 2mm larger than a Gibson LP. Sorry I bought this guitar.
@BazonBlades Жыл бұрын
Why not just put better locking tuners on it? I put Hipshot Griplocks on mine. They were $60.00, and I put them on in just a few minutes. You absolutely have to expect little things like this on a $200.00 guitar. That's the truth about buying budget instruments. No matter what brand, a $200.00 guitar is only going to be so good.
@frankanthonypascarella2620 Жыл бұрын
@@BazonBlades I agree you can't expect too much for 200 dollars, but I think the head stock is too thick and I will have the same problem regardless of what tuners I put on. My Gibson LP head stock is 16 mm, the FFLP is 18 to 19 in places, once you put the nut on top it covers half or more of the string hole. I think I need to send this one back... it is beautiful to look at, but I need it to play. Oh well. Thanks for responding.

@thomaskinne2357 , I haven't tried one of their DC's yet. But I do own two FFLP's and a relic FFST. And I had a current batch Mad Cat come across my workbench a couple of weeks ago. Fit/finish was really good on all four. But two of my three had/have high frets. Which is not horrible to me. I 100% expect that kind of stuff on a $200.00 guitar. That's the trade-off for how FF pushes the boundaries on features and finishes. I need to do a video covering the truth about buying FF guitars. The real bottom line that's not praising them for being perfect or bashing them for being junk. The truth lies somewhere in between.

@@BazonBlades What's crazy is when one does get a 200 guitar that's actually properly set up frets & all, right out of the box! & I would imagine I don't need to tell you, it has been happening. Then the Gibson flag wavers talking about how you get better quality for a couple more, if not more, grand. Yeah, you should be getting better quality. Question being, are you getting better QC? & kinda like on the 200 dollar guitar, sometimes you are, sometimes you're not. The guy from Fulton Street Beats, definitely does very honest & some times alarming reviews. Some people just don't wanna admit their ass hurts, after spending so much money on an "American" guitar. I've learned from experience, expect to do some work, regardless of what's spent. & yeah, there are some exceptions. Like PRS. If you do birds. I personally, don't do birds on my fretboard. Even their "SE" models. The QC is usually, unmatched. (& yeah man, I know they make some models, without birds) & more often than not, that is where you'll find unparalleled QC!
