Fireman's axe restoration

Hi my Friends, in the new episode I took old fireman's axe for the restoration. Have to say I rebuild it a little with regard to my ideas. So hope you enjoy this episode and if you like than share/like/subscribe.

These restoration videos are actually really cool. I've grown up in a plastic age where if things stop working or even stop looking pretty, they'll be thrown out which adds to the waste problems of the world. Here, instead of seeing things like this being just discarded, they're restored so that they can actually continue to be used. It's really great to see things being fixed, not just stored away.

I have a similar one to be restaurated. It had a stamp on the blade but due to the rust is no longer visible. How can i find what that stamp looked like?

the shape and contouring are miles off.thats why there are different types of wooden handles and they arent all just classified as one unified "shaved down stick"....

That is so simple handle because it is designed to be used as a double sided axe. There is no need for shaped or curved handle.

Love the intro. Only thing I would have done differently, would be to wire wheel the surface, before starting the sanding. Preserve the makers mark more that way. Goo job on this project!

tahtelbahirci imo you should never restore any weapon that has age to it. The patina or even rust can add value to it. Both historically and cash wise....but if you plan to restore something for use instead of show. By all means go for it. I personally love restoring anything im able to. just my 2 cents.

i agree with your logic. However the item i have will never be sold to anyone and i want to prevent its decay. With its restoration, i will be able to achieve that goal. The rust is spreading everywhere like a cancer and i need to prevent it from destroying the weapon.

Lovely work done. Furthermore being inclusive of "trifles and perfection" one additional feature to round over sharper edges/corners of the butt end of handle as to remove cause for injury to the hand of the wielder. This axe requires a lot more technique than only being swung and yanked. A pretty piece of work and its execution.

It really helps to have a nice cool tool shop handy when doing these restorations. I have an axe and I have to pin clamp it to a bench and then I use a grinding wheel that is on a drill. I had an axe years ago. I liked it. The handle broke off and I got another and I successfully put a new handle on that. Then I broke the handle again. So I bought a new axe this time and the axe head is much heavier and the metal seems much harder than on my old axe. I have yet to put a good edge on my new axe.

Nice Work!. I have the similar in original condition. It is even with little original red paint and original wood handle. It's really good original probably handmade tool. Very havy, big, forsed, great piece of steel. It has some original sign - a kind of devil head in flames. Maybe I'll also work on it restauration but without polishing. Not to destroy original signature. Take care!
