Beautiful color, but as a retired firefighter/engineer, I’m more of a fan of the classic red. 🤷♂️

Honestly this rig isn't all that unique. Come over to the East Coast; we've got departments running various shades of red, blue, green, yellow, even purple! What makes Denton's Engine 3 unique is that it's probably the only rig I know of in Texas that is that color green.

I've seen a purple fire truck in Greenville NC
@Firescue112Ай бұрын
Yes, you may be right... There really seems to be no law regarding the look & lighting of fire apparatus on the East Coast. Personally I've never been there (maybe something for my next trip), so I don't really know much about the departments there.
@Stargazzer811Ай бұрын
@@Firescue112 Generally speaking, the only law regarding the look of emergency vehicles in the US is the individual lighting laws of each state. In Texas they allow for red and blue lights, but in Virginia, fire apparatus must have only red and white, with amber lamps allowed only on the rear, for example. As far as livery colors, departments are allowed to use whatever colors they deem acceptable so long as they aren't socially unacceptable. Most of them are based in tradition in some way or another. All red, red over white, red and black and all white are traditional colors for apparatus, but some departments like to stand out or ended up with a different color through happenstance. Lafeyette Fire Company in Pennsylvania is an example of the latter; they ordered their first engine in the late 40s I think it was with all red paint. An accident in the paint shop led to it being delivered with pumpkin orange paint instead. The company decided to embrace it instead of sending it back and have been running orange rigs ever since. Different livery colors also help with identification on the fireground. With so many departments in close proximity here on the East Coast, unique livery's help tell who is showing up to the fire, especially if your company runs green rigs, another runs powder blue, the 3rd due guys are in yellow trucks and the slowest guys are on the black and red rigs!

@@Firescue112The only Federal requirement I’m aware of is the apparatus must have chevrons on the rear, and they must be yellow and white. Different color schemes require approval.
@heli-crewhgs5285Ай бұрын
Is this just style over substance? Why green, when your other vehicles are red? Also, the green lights on the rear are more difficult to see than traditional red or blue. Green lights are to signify a command & control (static) unit at a major incident. They’re usually mounted on a mast.

It’s because we have a UNT mean green basketball team
@Firescue112Ай бұрын
Yes, @americanstripes269 is correct, this unit was designed to show the support of the local university sports team. There is no plan to redesign the whole fleet in green - honestly this would be super cool, actually.
@Firescue112Ай бұрын
And regarding the light: In my personal opinion, green light is far better visible than red light. Blue light is also a lot brighter, especially when it's dark. In daylight red might be a tiny bit better, but I think there's a reason why most of Europe runs on blue lights only.
@Stargazzer811Ай бұрын
Not always. Green is becoming popular for front mount on many rigs because its the easiest color for the eye to discern at any time during the day or night. And also because everyone wants to be like Chicago Fire Department.
@Firescue112Ай бұрын
@@Stargazzer811 *or San Francisco, they also use one green light in the front :)
