When i explain tons of information about Music production, my friend said one thing. "I don't care how much physics and techniques you've implemented. If it sounds good, it's good. That's all". And that's all it matters in the end.
@natesamadhi332 жыл бұрын
True..but at the same time, knowing about the physics of sound production saves you so much headache & leaves much less guesswork when you're trying to figure out why something sounds bad/weak. I don't got time to just sit around all day and randomly play with stuff to see what work. I'm a professional with clients who depend on my expertise; I NEED to know what I'm doing so I can get the job done efficiently & respect everybody else's time. Yea, if it sounds good, it sounds good, but there's a REASON it sounds good, and figuring out that reason makes the job MUCH less frustrating/discouraging, and it shows other music professionals you truly take your craft seriously.

The end result is always what masters, it doesn't matter you got there, as long as it works. That said, it can always be helpful to know more about any subject. It's music theory. You can make music without it, but it can certainly be helpful to know it :)

Great Video. Very informative and an eye opener! I have a question though. In the video you mentioned that the low ends should remain in mono. Should that be only for the mixing phase or should they still remain in mono once I'm ready to export the file to WAV/MP3 ?
@FireWalkMusic Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. I don't always get notifications about comments for some reason, but yes, the low-end should remain mono-compatible even after it's mastered and exported to wav, mp3 etc.

It's a good habit to always check both when you start working with a new sound. That way you know if it'll work well in both mono and stereo, and you can avoid any unpleasant surprises later :)
@CasamTheAnimator9 ай бұрын
It also doesn't matter if your signal is mono or stereo if 2 signals are out of phase and you put them in mono you hear the 2 signals be flammed, because the only thing you did is combine 2 channels into 1 source so it stayed as it is so you didn't delete the other signal, so it doesn't matter if your subbass is mono or stereo because stereo width has nothing to do with phase at all, so if your subbass has right and left channel mismatch and then you put it in mono it's still stay out of phase because you only combined 2 mismatched signals so they're still not matched, so it doesn't matter of your low end is mono or stereo because both signal stay as they are and never go out of phase.

How loud should your songs be for mixing and mastering? Using youleen lufs plugin and stock plugins?
@FireWalkMusic Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. Those plugins can give you a good indication if the levels are healthy or not, but ultimately you have to use your ears. Just going for a specific LUFS reading, for example, isn't always the best idea, because some songs and genres tend to sound better with slightly more compression, while others sound better when they're more dynamic. If a song sounds nice and full at -12 LUFS for example, but it sounds slightly thin at -14, then I wouldn't try to aim for -14 just because that's the recommended setting for Spotify for example. Your ears are the best tool you have. I know it's a cliche, but it's true: If it sounds good, it sounds good. :)

What about basses that have stereo information that when you make them mono they lose their weight or sound squashed ?
@FireWalkMusic2 жыл бұрын
If it's a bass with higher frequencies in it then you might want those higher frequencies to be stereo. In that case I recommend splitting it as explained in thus video, so that the sub frequencies are mono, but the higher ones are not.
@stevie82712 жыл бұрын
probably goes back to production/sound design decisions; turn down the panning/wideness on unisons and chorus effects on your synths or mix bus to strike a better balance between wideness & mono compatibility. to me, stereo width is like salt. it can bring out the greatness in sounds, but you don't wanna have more salt than actual food in your final dish lol

there is a paid version of this plugin on Plugin alliance from the brainworks house called: `bx control 2` you got to pay but damn, it is perfect when it comes to control low freq on mono and boost their higher freqs on stereo or lower their strereo too. but wait! there is another crazy ass plugin called: BlueCat MB7 that makes stereo image but multiband so now you can choose which band of frequencies are on mono and wich ones are more or less stereo! up to 7 bands and also with Left & Right too!!! lmao mixing is so fun xD

I agree with that for kick and bass in mono, but much time i struggle with mix in mono it is sounds weak and also problems with leads etc...you can check some remixes on my chanel and yes you can laugh 😂😂
@FireWalkMusic2 жыл бұрын
It's not easy to strike that perfect balance. Oftentimes you'll just have to decide what's most important. Stereo and mono is like pepper and salt. You need to find the right balance, but as I said, the most important thing is that the low-end work well in mono. That's my main focus personally, and then I often let the leads and such be quite spread out.

Most phone speakers are stereo, don't buy mono speakers, buy only stereo speakers so you can decide the width of the audio signal, when you set the audio signal to mono you're always losing audio quality, and the audio will sound washy.

Mono is a dated technology that just needs to die. Every playback system should be in stereo. Iphones I believe now are in stereo. So, if you just have one speaker you shouldn't expect to enjoy a song unless its a song specifically written to mono with everything in the center.
