Every year, I boot up this game, play through the regular story to hear different dialog, then do the audio tour and finish it off with free roaming while playing Ole Shoshone over and over again until I pass out. I’ll forever be disappointed that Valve basically dissolved Campo Santo but at least the team is still together and working for one of the biggest dev studios in the industry

This sounds exactly like my yearly plan too 😂 * great minds * Yh there is a slight silver lining but it would have been interesting to see what else they came up with.

It's kind of embarassing how much this game managed to scared me on my forst playthrough. I had never really played a horror game, and I was not anticipating this one to be anything but a few nice, calm hieß through lustig woods. So when the guy with the flashlight stood on the cliff and the tower got messed up and Henry gets attacked by the lake I was dreading going out of my tower, at night especially. It's kind of amazing how this game only really has a single jumpscare towards the beginning and you only encounter the "villain" like twice, and nothing Bad ever really happens, and still this game had me on edge assuming something there would be a big scare. Now that I know what's to come I don't get creepy out anymore, i play it to enjoy this beautiful Story and the wonderful little World it creates. About once a year I start the game and play through the whole Story in one evening. It's a Ritual at this point and I cherish it.

Couldn't agree more its a different spice of horror using darkness, isolation and fear. I do exactly the same tbh, once a year boot it uo, play it and love it all over again :)

In late 2021, I listened to the soundtrack while at work nearly everyday. I work mostly outside so it was somewhat nice to be able to visualize everything, Eventhough it was winter. A few months later, i ended up playing the game, and man. It really did leave an impression. Not only that, but later on in 2022, i actually hiked up to a real 1920s decommissioned firewatch tower, in the late summer with a friend. It was surreal honestly. Living in an area in which 6-7000ft tall mountains with firewatches scattered around is truly a privilege.

Amazing game, sometimes the isolation felt on par with Outer Wilds and any comparison to that for me is automatically at least a reason to recommend a game to my friends. You described it very well, I agree with the people that say the ending feels like you've been cheated but I also love it because of that, it kinda leaves everything to your imagination and you're left with that feeling of "book hangover" that few games manage to leave me with nowadays. Thanks for reminding me of this game, I'll give it a re-play when I find the time.

somehow, this game hits a lot harder when everyone has been facing quarantine at the time years ago. I think it def adds to it retroactively. And damn I wish they coulda finished and released In The Valley of Gods, but the studio was bought by Valve and somehow any sides of it being worked on was lost or just no signs of any update. I'm hoping maybe they can get it out, even if maybe it releases in a different engine, say Source 2 than Unity considering Valve ofc. And do warn some divisive topics I will talk about, there was the time they did not want to not associate with Pewdiepie which is understandable (if u know some of the sh!t that's associated with radicalization esp within the gaming community), but the rabid stans of him which is the majority of the internet flocked to review bomb Firewatch because of as said. It's unfortunate time is not always kind. But that doesn't mean the art that's made doesn't last long or else stays timely if it wants to. Say more than multiplayers that will prob die out unless it makes a lot of updates to it to get you addicted. I mean this is the kinda work that'll stick no matter how long ago it was or whatever controversy facing it at the time.

I have never thought of it from that perspective but yh that's quite an interesting POV. Can't say that game rings any bells. Thanks for the info because I didn't notice about any of these, I know about Pewds and the issues revolving him tho however. Yh I feel single player games especially narrative driven ones like this, The last of us etc.. Have more of an impact like you say than fps.

In a way, i wish i could play it blind again. While yes, its slightly disappointing in the end, maybe it was better that way. You dont get everyrhing you want. Not to mention just how beautiful it really is. Being able to walk around, and feel as if youre one in nature. And, as another side note, i have trouble rewatching replays of videos i already have, but for some reason, i can watch Markipliers videos of it every now and then, and get the same enjoyment out of it. I remember the story, i remember the jokes, and yet, i leave the videos happy. I remember when her first played it, and wating for the next part to come out.

It's not a “masterpiece”. It's a very tight, well executed, unambitious little afternoon filler. I enjoyed it a lot, especially the first half, but after that I quickly realised, *_“Oh these devs don't want to animate any NPC's_* *_so no matter what the story wants me to believe, I'm not going to meet anyone else for any reason.”_* And sure enough that was the case, and it kinda killed my enjoyment the second half. It also means you'll definitely know that, any subsequent time you play the game. Hurting replay value substantially. It's basically a walking sim masking very well with good scripting and good acting. If you could call a game with hardly any gameplay “perfect”, because you don't factor ambition at all, then yeah, sure, you could argue the case.

Ah yes, a three hour walking simulator with a predictable, unrewarding story that sets it up so that it seems like your choices matter, but they don’t, is the best game ever. The most frustrating thing ever was trying to look at the map and walk around in this fucking game. Sounds about right in today’s gaming community. I would rather do a side quest in Oblivion or read a book.

I mean you're obviously entitled to your opinion but as my mum says - if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it all. There are plenty of people who feel otherwise. You enjoy your games and we'll enjoy ours. Have a nice day.
