Tysm for answering all my previous questions... but another thing I've noticed is that when I take out my twin blocks, my jaw is still in that position that the twin blocks move your jaw to. People tell me that also, without them in, I sound like I still have a lisp. It kinda scares me... Is this normal when you get twin blocks??? Tysm for your help :)

Haha, thankyou sm!! I have quite a few different ones that may help, so all answers for any questions will all be in 1 video in a couple weeks for everyone so it's easy to find anything worth knowing within the first few weeks for them :) I will be filming it VERY soon, within the next few weeks. We can do this 💪🏼😂

I told myself I shouldn't answer any questions yet, but I can't help myself!! Yes, it is normal to sound like you have a lisp when they're out, as your mouth is used to having something there..Although they shouldn't be out long enough for too many ppl to realise 👀😂 And when you first take them out your process may show with your teeth being where the twin blocks line them up or not, depending on the person really. Mine start slowly moving back when out for tea at times, but not long enough to delay anything 💞

Thank you girly for this video! When the dentist first gave me them I only wore them at night for 6 months straight and now I’ve got to wear them 24/7 for another 6 months because they hasn’t improved. If anyone’s reading this I’d advise you to stick it and wear it 24/7 and listen to your orthodontist! When I first found out this morning I had to wear them for another 6 months I was gutted. But I’ve got used to them now. The pins horrendous at first but personally for me once you’ve ate and taken them out it gets easier. Wishing everyone the best💕💕

Glad you feel better about them!! Honestly, first two to three days I was sitting on the couch having a self pity party😂 It does get better quite quickly, after the first week I've just accepted it. It does get easier. It's harder to swallow as you have extra saliva at first too, but once you have the hang of it it's honestly sm easier. The best advice I can give when you first start is try and accept it and as much as you want them out KEEP THEM IN!! This is my second lot, as the other ones broke in high school, and they never got sorted. If you start taking them out too much you will 100% regret it. I've actually kept them in longer than the average 22hrs, so mindset right now is accepting I have them and wear them more so I may get them out slightly sooner, it helps me be more strict with myself. If it makes it easier I'll try and make a video on tips or tricks 💞

For anyone who is about to get their twin blocks. I got my twin block 29/01/20 when you first get them keeping them In for the first 4 days is so hard your teeth ache and my tongue was hurting so much from the expander. In my sleep I took them out and threw them across the room. Please make sure you don’t smack the brace up and down because it really slowed down my treatment as it broke the wires and I had to get a new brace made best advice is just keep them in as long as possible because they will get out soon enough. The only way you can really get used to them is keeping them in, the saliva will go back to normal if you wear them all the time too. Hello Sophia, thankyou for posting the video, my daughter doesn't want to wear it to school.she is supposed to wear it 24*7 for 6-9 months, but she says I will wear it after I come back from school.Will it still help her ? I m worried she doesn't like the braces and is always angry when told to wear them.
@SophiaKelly
@SophiaKelly Жыл бұрын
Hii Neha, not wearing them in school will certainly slow the process down and is never recommended. I know school can be a hard time to wear them - This video was the 2nd time round I had these & was a final warning as I didn't wear them in school to the point they didn't fit, as I didn't want to wear them in school hours too. I do worry that not wearing them so many hours in the day may cause the same result! Maybe having them out during breaks would be a more beneficial compromise with her, as it won't affect the process as much on a daily basis. Personally I set a milestone of hours in the day to wear them, as it is recommended 24hrs, I'd always aim for 21/22hrs in the day. So as long as they're in around this amount of hours in a day she should be fine :) There's also other methods to help, for example I didn't eat with them in, so it didn't feel as if I had them in as long, although it was still the correct amount of hours, as you get a small break without them with breakfast, lunch, then dinner. I also found the more I kept them in and spoke it didn't help with just speech, but the process - meaning I went from not liking how they made my chin look, to my appearance being normal again. I'd say this takes around 2 months of consistency for the facial structure to appear normal to the individual themselves again, as it only looks normal because the jaw is moving to the correct position. Another way I didn't try as much to keep them is treating or rewarding myself if I reached that 22hr milestone on those days. Any kind really from treat food to a small gift. It is a very hard age to have them in the school years with how peers can be! Do not envy it at all - Here to talk if your daughter herself needs anyone to talk to :) Anything else or any other questions please don't hesitate to ask!! xx

Nooo, honestly I felt the same the first time round and it's the biggest mistake I've made. If you leave it too long there won't be any alternatives (apart from surgery) When in school it's probably the hardest time to have them in. All I can say is after you leave no one even cares or has a second thought about things like this. Don't let others dictate your future. Also, the pain will subside if you wear them all the time!! Around a week later you basically have no pain :) Felt the same, but forced myself to keep them in all way through til appt, which helped a lot went from 9mm to 5mm so if I can do it you definitely can, as I'm one of the least self disciplined and unmotivated ppl at the time 🤣💞 YOU GOT THIS, NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF

@SophiaKelly Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply! That is quite young to be fair, I think my age at the time definitely played a part into it, but that's more so to do with high school and the people around me. I was the type to let comments get to me the first time round which led to me just not wearing them throughout most of the school day. The second time round right at the end of school definitely helped, as I learnt to ignore the people around me and grew more confident by that point. I'd say with your daughters age, it may turn out to be a good thing it's before the transition from primary to secondary, as peers in primary school tend to not be as bad at that age :)

Hello. Could I ask how old were you when you got twin block for the first time? My son will be 14 years old in 5 months. I wonder it is too late to use twin blocks for his overjet. Did you get successful result? Any side effects?
@SophiaKelly
@SophiaKelly 9 ай бұрын
Hi, I was around 14/15yrs old when getting twinblocks, definitely not too late at all!! The results so far have been really good and worth every stage of the journey. Looking back on videos seeing my overbite and gap I can tell a huge difference which I'll look at in a video soon. Effects or struggles depend on the specific treatments you are getting. I only struggled with jaw/teeth aches as teeth were getting used to pressure on them with both the twinblock and traintracks stage and then just self discipline from time to time when needing to keep the blocks in. Hope this helps, if you have any more questions let me know :)

Around 2 - 4 weeks depending on how much you're talking. The more you talk the quicker you get back to normal, as your mouth gets used to the blocks quicker. School can be a hard time to have them, but as long as you don't let comments get you from insecure idiots (easier said than done I know) you'll be good with them. Just keep the end result in mind & stay with supportive (or just nice in general) friends 🙌🏼🤎

Not at all! Just felt very weird and uncomfortable. It feels like they take up majority of your mouth for a while. (As time goes on they feel smaller tho). You may find it difficult to swallow saliva at first too. You'll produce more due to the blocks at first, which plays a factor into it. Honestly they're not too bad overall, I'm sure you'll get on good with them, either way here if you need any advice or to talk :) x

Hey! Sorry for the late reply. The twinblocks help correct your jaw - overbites or underbites mostly - which also align top and bottom bites, making them visually look more straight to begin with, then the traintracks afterwards also help straighten your teeth. The twinblocks definitely help with both stages in correcting your smile/teeth. Hope this helps :)

I got mine 4 days ago. Dentist told me to wear them 24/7 but I took them off when eating and when I'm talking with my clients cause i can't afford getting fired of my job. Expected for this is just 3-4 months but since I'm almost 30 years old and reading the comments here, i don't think I'll get off in those timeline. I was wondering why i had to do twin blocks. All i had was a jaw clicking issue. I don't have overbite or overjet but using the twin block, he made my lower jaw move forward. I now look like a gorilla or has a crescent face shape. I really hated it so much and had a mental breakdown past days. I cried a lot. I don't have issues on the pain. What i hated the most is that i gag so often that i had to take the upper one. The bottom one is fine to me but the upper one is a hell. How do you even survive this? This is such a torture device.
@SophiaKelly
@SophiaKelly Жыл бұрын
If you're taking them out for your job in long time periods it may take longer or not be as effective in the original time period they've given you. I'm not too sure as to why for this specific issue, I'm only educated in the overbite, underbite ecttt areas for twin blocks, and even then would definitely advise talking to the professionals too. It can be a lot at first so the mental side of it is understandable. You definitely get used to it more over time if that helps. The gagging issue - The only way to stop this is to wear them both even when feeling this way. Try drinking water throughout the day, sometimes this can prevent gagging, it's more so to distract and occupy the brain. As your mouth gets used to the blocks being in it'll decrease and stop overtime :)) Hope everythings getting easier for you!!

@SophiaKelly
@SophiaKelly 3 жыл бұрын
1. From my experience the twin blocks are all clear. This is in the UK, as I've seen in the USA they can be red at times. 2. It will affect your speech for the first couple days to a week. When I first put them in people had to strain to understand what I was saying!! But after the first week you'll basically be back to normal. Personally, I still struggle when so first put them in, but after am hour or 2 I'm back to normal again :) 3. It is hard to smile, with showing teeth it will look weird, as the blocks line your teeth in a way your back ones have to always touch for the process to go smoothly and actually work, but your front ones won't touch each other. So I'd recommend no teeth 😂 I'll try and explain this in the next brace video visually for you. 4. I'm not too sure on this one, as your speech obviously goes back to the way it is after around a week, so I'm assuming your singing will too. However, it is two blocks in your mouth, so that can possibly effect it slightly. Wish I could be more help with this one. When getting them you can ask the orthodontist though, as they will know. Don't be scared!! The only pain involved is the aches, which don't really bother me or much people I know who have had them, and because my mouth is small sometimes one of the metal bits at the side can attach to my gum. Which also, doesn't really hurt that much. That's the max amount of pain you can get involved with the twin blocks really. It may hurt when getting them tightened slightly, I'm getting that done in 10weeks so will update, but again, that's just getting used to pressure on your teeth. So there's hardly any pain involved with these from my experience and others around me!! :) I'm sure you'll be fine 💞

Insecurity is a hard one with school, as long as you're happy with you that's all that matters. The dentist shouldn't have flipped at you, professional or unprofessional. I'd say keep them in, especially with the holidays as you're not around anyone as much. The only way to look "normal" to you again is to wear them enough for them to make progress. I know school can be a very hard place to have them, but you have to do what's best for YOU, no one else. I recommend going with it/listening to dentist, I regretted not first time round & would have needed surgery if I wanted straight teeth, which most ppl will if they don't go with the braces. It does get easier to speak over time when you're always wearing them, and you get used to how it looks, it's more noticeable to the individual wearing them than others. If you wear them 24/7 it can even improve the jaw faster, making your face structure more natural to you. I'd recommend speaking a lot at home, even things like reading out loud, as It'll help improve your speech quicker :) I know it's easier said than done, but you need to ignore others, fake it til you make it. They're not worth feeling bad in yourself over. Especially when you don't see most/speak to most when you leave. Here If you need any advice/someone to speak to, you got this 🤍🙌🏼

@SophiaKelly
@SophiaKelly 2 жыл бұрын
If it is that painful I would call the orthodontist to ensure everything is okay. Sometimes it is slightly painful slapping on your teeth when putting them in again, but I don't think it should be that bad. Definitely wearing them 24/7 & eating with them in does help the process go by quicker, it doesn't feel it at first, but helps massively. There's definitely a lot more ppl in the age range going through the same thing! And school can be a hard place to go through things like braces with. As long as you don't let people push you down or make you feel bad about something that will help you you'll be fine. Just have the end goal in mind. It's weird, as in a few years you don't even speak to majority of those people. Don't let temporary ppl put you down about something like braces, you'll come out better at the end of the day, ppl with braces always have better teeth in the end! 😂 I know it's easier said than done, just remember you're not alone and I'm always here to talk if needed

I’m getting mine in September I’m mostly scared about speech and being like bullied ( idc about pain ) how should I deal with this
@SophiaKelly
@SophiaKelly 3 жыл бұрын
I was the same the first time round (regretted not being as good with them!!), it really is about changing your mindset about how other ppl think about you, which is challenging/takes time. You can't really do much about the selfish and pathetic perspectives from closed minded ppl in school. It's definitely a hard time to have them, but you really need to try and focus on Yourself the whole time, as it'll be the best thing for you individually in the long run, as uncomfortable or maybe insecure as you feel about others, it's all about improving your self discipline and how you see yourself. As soon as you improve that, you'll be focussed on the goal and feel good about yourself, so others opinions won't affect you as much. A small bit of advice would to also be around ppl who won't joke around about them/ppl you feel comfortable with. That's what I've done too, I cut myself away from certain ppl for a bit and then slowly talk to everyone I'm more comfortable around one or two at a time. If you need anymore advice or any other questions just DM me on Instagram :))

Im scared i dont know if it hurts i was supposed to get braces but when i went to a specialist they said i needed to extract two of my teeth and i need to get twin block and after that i needed to get braces. But mine looks like an overbite i just have 12 lower teeth and 14 upper teeth and they want to remove two of my upper second molars, my parents refused so now im going to confirm to another dentist to get their opinion too.
@SophiaKelly
@SophiaKelly 3 жыл бұрын
Oh my. Don't worry yourself too much. From personal experience of a tooth being pulled out I can only assume they'll put a needle in to make your mouth numb to remove the 2 teeth. Twin blocks also don't hurt. You can only feel aches known and again, but no constant pain. I am also worried about train tracks, but we can do this together!! You can watch my journey and even see the train tracks before getting them in yourself, maybe calm your mind :) 💞

@SophiaKelly
@SophiaKelly 3 жыл бұрын
It can be for some people. Your mouth will get used to the amount of room needed over time. However, I would double check with the orthodontist, as at times they could have given you the wrong size moulds. Which can lead to the blocks being the wrong size for your mouth. Usually it's the first option though. Hope this helps :)

When starting the brace journey 14/15, I am now 19. It's taken a bit longer due to me relocating across the UK and not being able to make some appointments with few months gap in-between around 3/4 times, which can put someone behind where they should be a lot.

@SophiaKelly 3 жыл бұрын
If you haven't worn them for a while they may not be the right shape and size. I definitely do recommend starting to wear them again, however you most likely will have to go back to the NHS or private depending on where you're from. So you can get mould and start the process again. My next update will be in February when getting them tightened if you're interested in the journey beyond the 24hrs considering you've already been through that part :)) Also, this journey will include all the twin blocks journey and train tracks 💞
