bought white crz mugen in '12 500mi sold in '19 maybe 80-90k. believe mugen kit was factory, everything except doc and lim series badge, but full badge, wing, body kit, rad cap, knob 6sp, mugen mats, mugen rims 18. had all ex? upg like navi and lights. got 4k for trade in for '16 buick regal gs. had to. caretaking for moms. my 5 mods were 1. rims and tires for snowy ny. went with orange sparco 16 with runflat snow as to give creamsicle look. 2. viper remote start for 6 sp w tint pkg. complete waste. tint tried to go light cause i didnt want the look, but just some sun protect, probably had visor done. ended up removing for state insp. at a price. also parked in no shade and the metal mugen shift knob got hot, couldnt touch it in 90+ weather. just drove with an islander beanie or tony stewart beanie on in. remote was a waste. technically it was supposed to work but bc of the whole auto shut off engine hybrid thing it required sequencing to use remote start or valet, also i believed it improperly drained battery. went thru maybe 4 12v bats during ownership. 3. sirius xm with 4 new i wanna say jls. idk stocks were poppin. 4. similar ventguards you have. forgot the name but they came with polish instructions, and i'll include my flag decals here. on the mugen wing vertical tips, ebayyed weatherproof flags- flip flag representin on one side, am on other. had to xacto them to shape the triangle. last one was most ghetto, to make true hybrid had a battery tender weatherproof trickle charge zip tied, cause of the constant dead bat thing. also carried or purchase 3 booster packs during life. oh so the true hybrid thing was cause you had to plug it in. lol. i've driven off in reverse off the driveway w it still plugged in. had an airhorn inst., just in case someone thought there was nobody next to them. "i'm drivin' here!". had colorful orange beach towels covering cloth seats as i worked in warehousing and didnt want to accidentally stain seats. also had the cold air mod and springs but never installed. still got em if anyone still reading. k&n, eibach. CAR WAS TOO SLOW. i got passed in a merge lane once by a prius who went right to pass. i relegated to driving slow hoping to get gas mileage drafting semis. had legit 75% hwy driving only to best a 43 mpg once, 40+ a handful and, 37 38 usually- driving slow, w slow accel. pissed off countless people, pre pandemic.

I've wanted a crz since they came out and finally did. I'm happy with it, excited to get the few things it needs (spacers, arm rest, mine needs a new windshield, tints, Progress rear sway that should match the stock FSB at 19mm from what I've read). Plus I just got it at 97k so I'm thinking oil and cvt fluid and filter change immediately, for peace of mind more than anything.
@mista4142 жыл бұрын
Though most of what I can find says just follow the maintenance minder (which says oil life at 100 which seems too dark to be true), but also that "no tune up is required until 100k" so I'm thinking I'll just do it all. Make it good as new and trouble free.

I live in Milwaukee WI area, and our roads are pretty shitty. So I'm not sure if coilovers would be a good idea. I would like a slight drop but I wonder how soft I could set those BC coilovers. Otherwise the spoon springs are a 1/2" drop, but they're expensive especially if you get the struts to match. Only had it a week so that's further down the line anyway, and maybe just an OEM replacement in the meantime since it's at almost 100k miles on a 2014.

Thank you for this very informative video. I just got a blue CRZ (all stock) with 60K miles and first things I want to do are coilovers (probably Tein monoflex 5KG front and rear with a slight drop), sway bars, some questionable weight saving (back seats, starter battery..it's still something tho), rubber mats and this airbox mod. My only question is, won't this hurt the engine in the long run? I think I can remove the tabs first but stick to an original Honda air-filter. I also want to remove the muffler but it's highly illegal here in Italy, so many streets limitations here... So I might save for a legal but more musical exhaust. As for the wheels they are an expensive upgrade and tend to add weight so I want to prioritize coilovers, the stock ones are old anyway and might need some work done. I actually like the OEM wheels and I'm not sure if going for 17" ones is going to be a clear improvement. Does anybody knows the weight of the OEM 16" wheels? Suggestions for tyres? Thanks

I cannot speak to stock but with the light flywheel as well as the air and exhaust mods I have I see the mid-band gain as the perfect complement, most other mods only add a small amount if any to the mid-band but that is were I feel this car is lacking the most and I feel the fit intake is well worth it due to the decent mid-band power increase My car may not be the fastest around but the engine response coupled with the almost total linear power damn sure feels like it, regardless of the gear I never feel bogged at all anymore and for 4th gear and lower I feel little difference in power delivery regardless of what rpm range I'm at, its still faster at the top end and torquey in the low end but so smooth you tend not to notice much and I credit this smoothness to the fit intake So short answer I would say it depends and while I cannot speak from experience as I had already done a lot of my mods by the time I got around to installing the fit intake from what others have said I don't see it worth it as a stand-alone mod, but as a complement to other mods yes I would argue its a must and definitely worth it
@cgzare13375 жыл бұрын
These seem to be fairly common starter mods but I'm not sure that I would agree with them and from my experience with the mods I choose to start with I would have a different list, however, I would argue that there isn't really a true universal list because it depends on what you want out of that car However the only mod I disagree with is suspension I don't see the point, were I live in the mountains there are almost no straight roads and most have what I call country curves which to most city folk would be considered turns, I don't see much body roll maybe its because I have a 13 and suspension is one of the things upgraded but the only mod I would say would improve handling would be sway bars but I don't see it changing it much and I personally don't feel its worth the harsher ride but a understandable mod none the less Coilovers would also slightly improve handling by lowering the center of gravity but the CRZ is already low to the ground however its roughly the same as the civic so it would benefit from being lower but the cost/benefits ratio is insane the handling payoff is not even close to enough to justify the cost that is why I would say sway bars are the only legit cost-effective way to slightly improve handling, if you also wanted to lower your car for looks that might change things depending on how badly you wanted it some things cannot be considered on a cost/benefit ratio as they are priceless in the eyes of that person however for me personally I cannot lower my car where I live prohibits it(not by law, but fuction as I am forced to do light to moderate off roading in my daily driving) however if I could I still would not because the cost isnt worth it to me as I would only slightly lower it, ultra lower riders are stupid, pointless and about as aesthetically pleasing as extreme negative camber rims and carry more or less the same performance hits So in short the reason I disagree with the suspension mods overall not just as 1st mods is they offer little gain in performance, ride quality and looks for the money because the stock is perfectly fine and while it may have slightly more body roll I would argue the benefit of higher ride quality makes it a better choice for an everyday car, however, if you are making a track car it might be worth it to get sway bars and if you live in the city it may be worth it to get coilovers for looks, both offer a decent benefit for a track car but little benefit for an everyday car and can cause performance and ride quality issues for a everyday car I do however agree on the tint, in fact, its a mod I really want but cannot where I live it won't offer me much benefit nor would it change much in the way of looks because it is already close to the legal tint were I live. I could maybe only go another 5 percent max(after looking up tint percentages my rough guesstimate is stock tent is 40 percent) I MIGHT be able to get away with something like 20 percent in the back but its unlikely were I live right now but were I'm moving to(same state) I MIGHT be able to but the state law only allows 35 percent max and even then you can be ticketed if you don't have a state inspection sticker that states its legal tint and the ONLY exception to this is rear windows with exceptions this is mostly for non functional windows or "limo" windows so its gray area if you can tint the rear windows of something like a sedan and this only applies to side windows, not the rear windshield so under law I could only tent the two side windows under 35 percent and to me that will make the looks worse not better That said I can only think of one universal mod that I would argue everybody should get regardless of what you plan on doing with your car, this includes even if you don't want to mod anything at all and that is tires, wider stickier tires but even this would depend on your purpose for the car for me, non modders, people who live in the north among some others I would recommend a UHP all season but for performance-oriented I would argue a UHP summer tire/winter tire combo, the reason I personally use all seasons is as I said above were I live requires me to do some light to moderate offroading in my daily driving but when I move I most likely will change the tires to a UHP summer/winter combo, its not that were I'm moving is less rural in fact I would argue its more rural but its also better kept so road conditions are far better than were I live now My personal 1st 5 was tires(+1 mid-profile, wide, UHP all-seasons), air(k&n typhoon), exhaust(catback), cooling(dual row all aluminum radiator) and clutch/flywheel(ORC light) and that was because my goal is to turbocharge for performance but also to build a fun road trip car for efficiency, longevity and as a place to rest/sleep to save money(so I need it to be able to idle for long periods of time without to much wear) this is also why I plan on having two ecu maps one for efficiency to use regular octane gas and one for performance to use premium gas this way I can have the added efficacy and some performance increase from a turbo but not the added cost nor added inconvenience of premium gas for long road trips and a sleeper for track or high-performance canyon style racing The air slightly increased economy and a moderately increased response, the exhaust slightly increased power, significantly increased response and the lighter flywheel very significantly increased response and moderately increased power(less inertia so it doesn't make more power but it allows more to go to the wheels and has a decent amount of weight savings) in fact with the flywheel it completely changed the feel of the car while most of the other mods I have done you can feel the difference with the flywheel I cant just feel the difference it feels like I'm not driving the same car I was I have done other mods these were just my 1st 5 Since this comment is so long and has some personal reasons for what I've done to my car I would also like to add the very reason I bought this car was I felt it was a good base for a fun road trip car, the hybrid aspect and the fact its a two-seater, lightweight hatch with decent storage for its size and comes in a manual to me makes it the very best road trip car for more or less max fun as well as economy, it is not nor was it ever meant to be a beast track car, but I most defiantly would not call it "slow" but you have to know what you have, if your goal is like mine or something akin to a weekend warrior or fun commuter than the CRZ to me is the best choice, in fact, the only one but if you want a track car or try to make it look more "sporty" by adding a bunch of for looks only areo mods your gonna be very disappointed and might even end up with a slow lug of a car it is my thought this is why it bombed in sales the unrealistic expectations from all sides but the main reasons I have found is the "hybrid haters", the "hybrid lovers" and the ignorant speed demons that expected prius like economy and dodge demon like performance. while performance and economy are linked and you can't have a car that is a master of both the two are not natural enemies and there are ways to increase performance while also increasing economy or at least keeping it close to the same and the CRZ is the best example of this and an engineering masterpiece but for most of the laymen who don't understand the engineering aspects were disappointed as its not a prius-corvette

Im planning to get a 2013 crz.. should i be worrying about the ima battery?
@UbanteGarage5 жыл бұрын
on every hybrid the battery is always something to be worried about. BUT mine is currently at 113k miles and no issues with the battery yet. As for most it can have issues as early as 80k but theres crz's out there with 200k+ with no issues OG battery. its just a hit or miss thing

@UbanteGarage4 жыл бұрын
Zoarork25 it’s just a the hole to the resonator. It’s there to reduce intake noise and if water was to get into the air box

CALLING ALL CR-Z OWNERS: DOES ANYONE HEAR A WHISTLING NOISE AT HIGH SPEEDS? I have a 2014 CR-Z and when I'm going around 85 mph and up I hear a strange whistling noise coming from I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE. My gf said she hears it coming from the roof?? So my guess is it might have something to do with the window seal? If anyone has experience with this hmu!
@samuel95885 жыл бұрын
John Hernandez hey I don’t exactly the same hybrid but I own a 2010 Insight which share similarities. I can relate to the whistling. I can never pinpoint and it comes and goes. It seems to be how Honda cut a lot of corners with their hybrids to some degree. I’m guessing worn out seals either in the door or window
@brendankelly44155 жыл бұрын
i had the same thing. i got the windshield replaced and it went away for good. it was insanely annoying. i could press on the headliner when it was happening and change the sound.
