Nice. I've being eyeing this antenna for my 705 and HT.

Good idea with the lanyard. Nothing like dropping it in the snow and having no idea when it happened. Maybe you'll find it in the Spring? 🤷🏻♂️ Mine is the dual band back pack two piece boom. I like your logic, though, about getting only the 2m single boom. Keep it simple in the Winter!

Thanks, Rodger! For me, the easier I make things in the winter the better.

Hey! I heard that exchange-- just wasn't fast enough to the radio!

I'll be out playing with that antenna again real soon. So there will be a next time!

I can't believe how close I was to actual stardom! Fortunately Erik/Matt was there! 😀

I want to get the 2m/70cm version, mostly to do some satellite work.

Satellites are too much for this simple jack pine savage. Very thought of me trying to keep up with all involved makes me a little dizzy. I hope you get into it soon! Would love to see you work some satellites from a park!

@@Scout75PortableRadio If I can’t do the satellite stuff, I’ll try fox hunting… Who knows? 73!

Great overview of a great antenna, Shane! Picked one up when I started to get out farther from the Portland metro area and didn't have my general license yet. One trick with any directional antenna, is when you receive a signal, use the S-meter on the radio and move the antenna to maximize the signal. Can definitely help those farther SOTA QSOs. 73! Also great to demonstrate vertical vs horizontal polarization.

Thank you, Tim! So far I’m having a lot of fun with this antenna. Glad i finally picked one up.

@@Scout75PortableRadio on my to do list for a while is to make some sort of tripod mount or something to hold it. It can get heavy after operating for a bit. I know some people replace the boom with something a bit lighter, or out extra holes in it.

Im wondering, the quiet signal report could be because you're not close enough to the mic. Pull up on it, at least I have to with my FT70D, I usually just about have my nose touching the radio. Nice video. Been debating picking up the 3 or 4 element arrow. I have an elk antenna but its a lot more pieces to assemble.

Thanks for watching! Good point. I had some challenges with this setup. I only had a 3 foot length of coax for this outing. I got a 6 foot length since this video and I think it improved things.
