a few unrealistic things here, such as the copperhead artillery rounds hitting the bridge with perfect accuracy, but otherwise, this is an amazing recreation of civilians caught on the battlefield. of course in the civil war, Bull Run was the only battle in which civilians were spectators

I was in this film as well. We were the 1st Minnesota Co. A. We are wearing the red shirts black trousers and black slouch hats. On the next episode at the very beginning a column of soldiers are walking from left to right. I am the very first sergeant.

@acidbubblebath772 жыл бұрын
@@rc59191 Not that I can recall. It is part of a walking trail surrounded by woods near rt.29. The only monument I know of at the battlefield is that of Stonewall Jackson, but that's it. On a side note, there was a high school about 3 to 4 miles south near rt. 234 that was called "Stonewall Jackson High School." I say "was" because it has since been renamed to "Unity Reed" 2 years ago. Other than that, many of the old battlefield names are street signs in and around manassas.

Really the only chance for Southern victory was to press their advantage after defeating the North here at Bull Run. The union was throughly beaten and in full retreat. Muster all available divisions to pursue and surround DC to force a union surrender. Jeff Davis had other ideas
@Kaiserboo18712 жыл бұрын
Actually the closest they got to victory was Antietam (1862). If they had won at Antietam than Europe would have recognized the confederacy and suddenly Lincoln would be fighting a two front war.

There was absolutely no energy left for pressing the route. Not to mention there were still forts manned around DC itself to take if they were to do so. @acidbubblebath773 жыл бұрын
I always wondered why D.C. was never attacked given how close Lee's army was and how close D.C. was to the confederacy in general. If I am not mistaken, Lee's plan later on in the war was to take Gettysburg, march east to Philadelphia, then drive south to siege the nation's capital. Too ambitious of a plan as it turns out. Interestingly enough, Vicksburg fell a day after Picket's ill-fater charge up Cemetery Ridge and Vicksburg would not celebrate the 4th of July for almost 80 years after that. My civil war history is a tad rusty though so if I am wrong about any of this, I am all ears.
