My favorite line is "You enemies whisper so you have to scream." The reynolds pamphlet was a huge over reaction to Jefferson finding out about his affair.

Historically, none of the men in the show were actually the ones to confront him, Lin just needed them to continue the roles of Hamilton’s opposition. In real life it was Frederick Muhlenberg, James Monroe, and Abraham Venable. The three of them promised not to say anything, but Monroe sent copies of the various documents to Jefferson (which is probably where his involvement came in) and John Buckley had copies as well. Buckley probably gave access to a journalist John Callendar, so when Hamilton heavily hinted in some essays that Jefferson had relations with his slave Sally Hemings, Callendar put out that Hamilton wasn’t so innocent in his own sexual endeavors and that he also participated in speculation with James Reynolds. Hamilton decided that as a last ditch effort to save his career he would publicly refute the speculation accusation at the expense of his marriage and his chances at becoming president. Funnily enough, Burr was involved twice around the situation. First as Maria Reynold’s attorney when she split with James, and second when he stopped a duel between Hamilton and Monroe, who Alexander blamed for the information getting out.

Actually, she had already given birth at that time. That child’s name was William Stephen Hamilton, born on August 4, 1797. The pamphlet was published on the 25th.

the women who sing this song are 5 different “Elizas” from a different tour of Hamilton, Rachelle from London, Lexi who replaced Pippa on Broadway, Ari from the Chicago cast, Julia and Shoba from 2 national tours. They are all amazing in their own way and this song is SO powerful. loved your reaction as always! excited to watch you cry as listening to the reprise of Theodosia... if yall want to hear Lin himself talking about this version and why it got cut, check this interview kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJLHn2iuoJmlrs0&ab_channel=AMtoDM

Not in this version, it's not the 5 of them, that's a different one with a video that shows them in the vocal booth if I'm not mistaken. This one's just the "original" Eliza.

This song is Lin-Manuel Miranda's first draft of Burn, hence the name. It features 5 different Elizas: Ari Afsar, who was the original Eliza at the CIBC Theatre in Chicago (September 2016-March 2018) and for a single week appeared as Eliza in the Philip (Second National) Tour in May 2019. Julia Harriman, who was a standby for the Schuyler sisters in the Angelica (First National) Tour until she assumed the role of Eliza in January 2018, but left the Angelica Tour to become the original Eliza in the And Peggy (Third National) Tour in January 2019 where she remained until January this year. Lexi Lawson, who replaced Phillipa Soo at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway (July 2016-October 2018). Rachelle Ann Go, who was the original Eliza at the Victoria Palace Theatre in the West End (December 2017-November 2019). Shoba Narayan, who was the original Eliza in the Philip (Second National) Tour (Febuary 2018-Febuary 2019).

I love first burn! It's not necessarily right for the show, but it's a wallop of rage from Eliza, and she's otherwise presented as so calm and collected, so im glad it survived in some form. The main reason it wouldn't work in the show is because first burn is Eliza talking to directly to Hamilton, and in the show she's on stage alone and more dealing with her grief over the scandal instead of her rage. Plus, can you imagine trying to narratively move Eliza from this much rage to "forgiveness...can you imagine?" within just a couple songs? It would have been impossible.
