You're doing brilliantly with Effie, she's so lucky to have such a loving and caring Mummy. I also have a rescue dog...it wasn't easy to start with but he's so much better now. He does still have some 'issues', but as time's going on things are settling down. I understand how stressful and overwhelming it can be, I was like that too, but keep with it...things will get easier. Sending you and Effie much love x

I swear we have the same dog! Mine is exactly the same, a ball of nerves in public and quite afraid of everything. Even down to the one-legged hop when she sees her harness. I completely get what you mean when the walk turned out to be a disappointment--we live in a big city and I always plan to get her out during quieter hours yet when something like fireworks (or just any unexpected ruckus really) happens, it becomes stressful all-around. Good thing they usually bounce back, but just know I feel you and I know EXACTLY the journey you're on!

I came off the pill after 10 years in lockdown and honestly felt really great for it. The only issue is that my skin is breaking out more and my periods have disappeared but they say it can take a while for your body to find its natural cycle again. Good luck with it!

You should check out the book “beyond the pill” by dr. jolene brighten. I’m reading it right now in preparation for going off the pill. She talks about natural ways you can try to help reset your hormones if you have “post birth control syndrome,” which I guess is a thing no one told us about!

I got off the pill years ago now (I'm 28). It's a bumpy ride at first getting used to it all and your body working out what to do on its own. But it's life-changing when you learn to work with rather than against your body cycles. If anyone is interested I can recommend a lot of great books to read just to even learn more about your cycles.

Booklist: Taking charge of your fertility, Period Repair Manual, Women code, The Fifth Vital Sign, Beyond the Pill, Sweetening the Pill. Those are the ones off the top of my head. I would also get a cheap BBT (body basal temperature) to start learning to track your cycles. Just remember one step at a time no need to rush! :-) Let me know if you want more info on anything I wish I learned this all when I was a teenager lol

Hi there. I have a very anxious rescue dog that came from Spain to the uk. He is petrified of strangers, built up areas, he’s noise sensitive etc etc. it’s been a hard slog. He also loves other dogs. Like your beautiful girl he is a gentle soul. I just want to say I can totally relate to your challenges and know how hard it can be. It’s worth it but it’s extremely difficult when things other people can do with their pets you cannot. Also it can be heart breaking when they are frightened. I can see the massive progress you have made with her and you should be proud that you have made her life so much better xxxx

Hey Estee!! I came off the pill when I was 22/23. I went on it when I was 15/16 to regulate my periods. Yasmin was good for a while and maybe my hormones normalized after a while/body changed etc but I could seriously feel dark cloud over me building up over time. There was talk about how the pill slowly causes depression/mental darkness the longer you are on it. I went off it and never looked back. Felt so much better and I honestly truly hope you feel the same. It will take a little while for your body to adjust and just allow it heal for a while. You will feel better, maybe after a combination of changes, not just the pill. Hoping this message helps someone out there! Us girls are here for each other!

It's funny how different people are, I specifically went on BC to help control my mood swings (at my doctor's suggestion, she recommended Alesse for that issue specifically). I just noticed that my periods of severe depression, suicidal thinking, anxiety and paranoid thinking were cyclical and typically manifested right before my period. Every woman is different, but in my case BC has been HUGE in regulating my moods; I rarely experience the same severe low levels I used to. I still experience depressive symptoms, but they are SO much better than what they were.

Same here! I take lo Loestrin Fe and BC changed my life for the better. My periods are lighter and I am not an emotional wreck anymore - been taking it for 3 years now. My cystic acne went away after a month too. If your doctor gives you the correct brand, you use it correctly, (same time everyday), the benefits are amazing.

Estee! I've been on the pill for 5 years and just spoke with my doctor and bought a book to begin the process of coming off it! I wasn't very impressed with what my doctor said, basically "it's fine if you want off it's fine if you want to continue" so I wasn't really given a concrete answer if I should stay on it or not. I'm not using it for its intended purposes (just regulating my cycle and stopping spots) so I picked up "This Is Your Brain On Birth Control" and hoping that'll teach me more than my doctor! If you feel comfortable I would love to hear about your experience coming off it! I think we should end the stigma about openly speaking about women's reproductive system/women's health in general so I'm so happy to hear you mention it in this vlog and say you're going to talk more tomorrow!! Sending love from Canada!! xx

what the heck those kids!! Are we old when that bothers us lol. I feel for you. My pup is also a scaredy-cat all the time. You're so lucky the basket worked for Effie! It took us a while, but we figured out that our dog likes to lay on the floor in the backseat. He's not strapped in, but because he's down there, he can't fly around and he's able to curl up and he seems to feel safe down there. Also looking forward to hearing your experience further coming off BC. Everyone is so different. I switched from BC to an IUD and I have loved it so far. The main reason I got on BC was that my periods were so heavy but eventually, I got sick of taking a pill every day. I like that the IUD hormones are localized so they don't seem to affect me as much as the pill.

@@ligli500 it’s natural to feel scared but rest easy knowing that knowledge is power. Women have such a small window every month of when they can conceive. You are not fertile every day. The package was so cute. And also, totally feel you on the crackers. They are the absolute best.

Awe poor Effie, but don't fret about it Estee, these things happen to anxious dogs, I have one who hates anything new. In fact he won't walk over concrete driveways on walks, he prefers Asphalt drives like his own lol. Honestly we just take each day as a new day with him, tomorrow there will be something else he hates lol. I have another little dog she is a gem, confident, and uncomplicated sheer bliss, however we love him regardless of his anxiety! Effie is gorgeous xxxx

Being off the pill is amazing! I've been off it for almost 2 years and I can't believe I was ever on it. You might find some of the seasons quite challenging but it shows that we women aren't meant to go full pelt every day. I love Claire Baker and her book 50 things you need to know about periods xx good luck and welcome to womanhood!

Hi Estee! I'm glad you told us about the pill, I took it for many years and I didn’t realize how it changed me in many ways, despite being very useful for many things, it also disconnects us from our natural hormonal cycle that I think is very beneficial both mentally and physically for women. I would love to hear more about your opinion in the next vlog! Greetings from Spain 😘
