That all depends. If intelligent life is abundant in the galaxy then they may avoid us based on our level of development. But if intelligent life is rare they may want to contact us simply its a chance to meet something else that is Sapient. The one thing we don't really have to worry about is being attacked for resources. Lots of useful resources exist on planets without nuclear armed apes running around on it.

I hope that in my life time we make contact with an alien species. I just want to die knowing beyond any doubt that we are not alone. I personally believe we are not alone as the universe is far too big for us to be the only intelligent life. But I do believe it would be super rare considering how much stability life needs for billions of years for evolution to be able to occur like it did here on Earth.

I think it will happen one day but in all honesty I don't think that day will be during our lifetime unfortunately. Can you imagine generations way in the future that will be born and grow up knowing there are galactic neighbours out there, and that in itself just being part of life as sure as the sky being blue and grass being green? There are so many things we're gonna miss and it's kinda sad we only get one chance to be here. I wanna see space colonies and deep space travel!

I hope one day an alien species comes to earth with amazing technology that can reverse engineer ancient life from rock, bring my fossil back to life or down load my long gone consciousness onto an android and send me on a mission of my own to other long dead alien species to revive them too! I watch too many Sci fi movies. But even after we are all long gone and turned to dust, our atoms will still be around so you never know... our atoms could one day give life to another planet or even be part of a person way in the future and maybe even though we won't remember our current life we could at least still be there to witness aliens visiting earth. 😉✌️

@@craigrees6474 In the late 60's I watched a classic 'flying saucer' fly low and slow right above my house less then 100' right above me. Had I had a slingshot, could have easily 'pinged' it. Since then I have had three additional sightings, but that is the one I cannot seem to shake from my mind. I have atteneded the McMenamins UFO Convention several times and have chatted with others with similar experiences. I just hope full disclosure happens before I pass on to the big UFO in the sky. Back in 2015 I had a blackberry phone and idk why but the sky looked a strange colour so I grabbed the phone and took 3 consecutive pictures. I looked back at the pictures and I could see what I can only explain as a blurry shape that kind of looked like a reel of cotton. Idk where you are but I'm in the Uk and i can get these in my local shop for about a pound... you know the cotton that you sew your clothes with? Well it was that shape if I looked at one with squinted eyes. Anyway there was 3 pictures and whatever this was was in all 3 pictures but it was moving. The first picture was a complete full view of this blurry image and the next it was about an inch from the first picture and the last one was half of whatever I captured but I could see my guttering on my roof and it was half the shape and half my guttering. Whatever it was was moving and it was fast because I took the three pictures one after each other with no seconds to spare. It was only after looking back I seen this object in the sky but the sky was a really wierd orange colour and that's the only reason I took the pictures. I showed my partner at the time and she was scratching her head as it was so strange. That's not the weird part... I decided to rename the pictures like for instance ufo pic 1, then 2 and 3 but as soon as I did that the pictures all renamed pic 3 and the other 2 disappeared off my phone! So basically i went from 3 individual pictures of the same sky, took at the same time and after my own stupid mistake of renaming them, i was left with 3 identical pictures of the crappest pic of the object going past the guttering of my property. I was so pi$$Ed! But after all these years since I've wondered what I'd don't wrong while renaming the 3 pics 1,2,&3...but I don't think I'd done anything wrong tbh... I reckon whatever I took the pic off was either flagged up by the government and remotely deleted, but in a way that makes it look like I did something wrong. Or as strange as this sounds..it has crossed my mind tho... what if the UFOs are actually people from the future coming back to study us? Like when we were in school, we'd have a few trips a year to old settlements or museums etc... but could you imagine far away in the future instead of museums they could actually bring people back and witness the past themselves! As crazy as that sounds, us now in this time can't comprehend the future at all and I've heard time travel isn't possible but imagine 20 thousand years or more....basically none of us in this time can say for sure its not possible that far away. So for all I know someone from the future deleted my pics. I know that's out there for an idea but seriously I've always wondered wtf happened for them pics to just vanish like that. Another time about 4 years ago I was driving home through some lanes and on the corner of my eye I seen either 5 or 7 objects in a uniform position in the sky and just as I tried to focus my sight whatever the were done a loop shape manoeuvre, left a circle of smoke and disappeared! This was a sunny day with no clouds and the vanished. All that was left was a circle of smoke in the sky.... that was also a really weird day. The could of been drones doing some kind of formation of something but it all happened so fast aswel and I had to keep my eyes on the road! But them 2 experiences make me believe something is happening under our noses.. oh yeah the first thing I mentioned about the pics, I also thought the government may of been spying on people's phones or something and say for instance they have an algorithm that looks for specific shapes, maybe my pics got flagged up and someone deleted them...idk.... its not all black and white and some people will call me crazy for what I've just explained but I swear on everything I love these 2 occasions happened and I'm not crazy or think the world is flat but seriously I've witnessed these with my own eyes and ive just been left thinking someone or something knows what I saw on both occasions and I really think we are not shown the whole picture by the government's either for whatever reason?? Its a rabbit hole really because if governments came out tomorrow and said aliens have visited us or whatever, the day after all churches would close and the craziness would start! If the government knows about this stuff then for sure the will never tell us. A spaceship would have to land infront of most people before they took this seriously. What's compelling are the events in which they see beings appear which also happen near groups of children, for example, the Ariel school incident in Africa, the Westall event in Australia, and other events involving young teen witnesses One detail I have noticed is that they mention that the beings appear to be moving quickly, or "running around", or "like a video in fast-forward." This is precisely what one would expect if such craft were tinkering with gravity. Others nearer to such craft, talk about how things get really quiet, as if they're under water. This too would be expected as sound would get stretched in wavelength going lower and lower in frequency to a minimum of no frequency at all. This may also explain why no sound is heard. If a field surrounds a craft, sound waves, to the observer, would grow shorter and shorter until it's too high pitched to hear at all. Lastly, EM fields generated would also shift from radio into the light spectrum. This could explain the odd lights, especially if high voltage electrical fields are created or used. One thing is for sure, manipulation of time or gravity would have very very strange results, it's just interesting that the observations include details that most people, let alone children, wouldn't know about.

Ask oneself this question. How would you feel if first contact was with a species that behaved like us? The book series Three Body Problem presents the "Dark Forest" idea that we live in a dark forest where making yourself visible is a quick way of becoming prey. As depressing as that is, the hypothesis is valid. However, I've seen little on this Earth that suggests our species is worthy, so first contact is worth a punt since it would result in either "failing early" or elevate us beyond ourselves.

The exact words to both the Q & A escape me but the question asked was “given the US have renewed interest in the subject (UFO’s) from a national security stand point, does the British government think it will begin any research study or inquiry of its own?” To which the Answer essentially was: “The US can do what it likes with what it considers to be a threat - we however focus on real threats” You can probably find the clip somewhere easily enough. It demonstrates exactly the kind of apathetic derision the UK gov has always publicly shown the topic. Even in 2022.

There's a third possibility here which is that there is intelligent life in the universe but that the physical limits on the universe (for example the speed of light "speed limit") might mean that we never manage to contact anyone (and the same could go for a civilisation out there). The distances are just too vast. Also the expansion of the universe already means there are stars we can see which we would never be able to reach no matter how advanced we became. Does that make us alone in the universe? On some level the answer has to be yes. Of course we might discover life in our solar system in microbial form which would tell us that life is probably everywhere. At the moment we just don't have a large enough sample size to draw a meaningful conclusion.

I just caught this on PBS. Wonderful special! When I was a kid, some time in the mid 90’s, a similar special aired on PBS about a signal from space that turned out to have been sent by a machine intelligence. Does anyone remember the name of that program by chance?

Just got a chance to see the entire docudrama and I wouldn't necessarily call it "first contact" since that implies an interaction . This situation portrayed is more like first evidence of another civilization besides our own but ultimately more like a wake or a memorial of their civilization that has long since passed away leaving only their remnants floating around in space . The video never answers the question whether or not this is a probe,space junk or something else . The simple fact that our universe is so vast and ancient beyond our comprehension and that most life amongst the stars are separated by such vast distances makes this scenario very likely . However we have thousands of years of stories , experiences, and actual evidence of another kind of contact happening with our species . To simply dismiss these events as being mythology or our imagination would be foolish and very unscientific to say the least . My own personal belief is that we have been visited by others but our intelligence and theirs are light years apart from each other and that they're slowly acclimating our species for eventual contact . In recent years many one time skeptics within academia have finally started looking at the evidence of this situation and coming around to the notion of this situation being real . As scientist often say "follow the evidence to wherever it may go" and "do the science to come to a logical conclusion ". Many of them have done exactly that and radically changed their minds about it and especially now that the US government has said they've been having incidents involving technologies that cannot easily explain . If there is actual communication it will be because the other civilization took the time to study our methods of learning and communication and made an effort to talk to us not vice versa since we can't even communicate with most intelligent species on our own planet and often times find it difficult to have a meaningful dialogue amongst ourselves . That being said the gap between our intelligences will be vast .Even just a thousand years of difference between our intelligences would be huge let alone 50 k or a million years which is nothing compared to the age of the universe and when life first started within the heavens . Our species is very fragile in many ways and especially when it comes to our egos . What's going to happen when we realize how much we don't know or how immature our civilization is compared to others out there ? It could definitely be a big shock for our kind and as this documentary points out quite destructive for our society . Any potential first contact with a higher intelligence will have to be handled similar to how contact with isolated pockets of humans still living in the stone age has been handled by our technological society .
