Congratulations on planting your first crops, love that your son was involved, a very important part of it. It teaches him loads to see the whole process through. Will be waiting to see the updates.👍❤️

Thanks so much and yes, it's a massive step, but I'm also being realistic that it could get wiped out, but that parr of learning my local environment and challenges. Including my kids in this journey is one of the main reasons for doing this. It's so important that they have a full educational experience and not just be told to learn something because the government says they have to. Teaching them real world thinking is the most important thing we, as parents, can do. You already know the next update isn't great but there is so much I will be sharing, even though I won't be doing anything on the farm. Thank you for all your support 🌻

Well done!! We grow in a market garden style which means beds at 75cm wide. It standardises everything, and you get a broadfork that is also 75cm wide. The broadfork speeds up bed prep and aerate the soil. Love what you are doing and having your son help is fantastic!

@@pieterkemp7928 thank you Pieter and thank you for sharing your experiences of growing. I would love to know more! Strangely enough I actually made my decision on 600mm beds based on a 600mm wide broad fork I'm wanting to buy 😂 seems like the logic was there but not the size, lol. I'm very much experimenting right now to see what happen. I might need to enclose the area, get a fence, etc. But time will tell and I luckily don't have high hopes, just high hopes to learn. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with me 🌻

My dear friend, most weat in the western cape is sowed in may for the winter. Hoping all will work out well. Pine is an acid, just watch out for that. Take care
@tamakoa-homesteadАй бұрын
Hey, thanks for those insights and you are so right that wheat here is a winter crop, so I am really pushing the boundaries of what's possible. That being said, if it fails then I will just treat the row as a cover crop and weed eat and mow it in time for it to settle for the winter planting. I must say, I have found the pine needle debate to be one of the most hotly contested debated around 😆 I used them extensively in my urban garden for many years and they were absolutely incredible and the reason why I did was after reading 3 different university studies that were done. All 3 studies showed that there was zero change to the PH of the soil and that to change soil PH you would need huge amounts of green needles. I found this super interesting and I am actually going to see if I can possibly work with a local university to run some tests. Could be pretty interesting! Thanks again for all your support and insights 🙏

Awesome beginnings man hope all works out. I’d be interested in hearing how you went about getting in with living seeds as would love to do the same. Or if they willing to give you a discount code for your viewers. Happy gardening

Hey, thanks for reaching out and great question! Sean and I come a long way and have been discussing this journey for a while. He was incredibly kind to offer to help us get on our feet and I am busy chatting to him to see if I can get you and other flowers some kind of link with benefits. I'll post an update for you on that if/when that happens. Are you documenting your journey? I would love to follow you and allows others to follow you too so if you are please post a link here 🌻

Do you not have to put a fence up to stop animals popping round for lunch? Well done to you and your son it looks amazing 👏 🎉
@tamakoa-homesteadАй бұрын
Ah, thanks Carol and yes, you are more than likely correct! I am expecting things to not be very successful but hoping for something, even if it's just seed saving 😁 My honest expectation (probably a worthwhile video) is that it is going to give me great insights into pests, watering and wind damage. I am wanting to use those insights to make improvements. I have ready decided I need to close in my whole fruit orchard and veggie garden because there are baboons but they should go for grains, mostly corn. Once again I'm testing this 😁 I have already thought I need a perimeter fence of chicken wire to keep any animals (hares, porcupines, etc) out but I don't know what height or if I should just close this in too. I hope you enjoyed watching my son and I and that you continue to enjoy our videos in the years to come 🌻

Hi guys - well done on your progress thus far - you and especially your son are reliving my childhood on my Homestead in KZN - If I may recommend - set up some camping sites with basic facilities for people with skills that can come and assist for free in further developing your property - I know I would love to come over - good luck going forward ❤

@@raajihappanna955 oh wow, thank you for sharing that with me yes, sharing this journey with my kids is something really important. I am actually writing you this from my hospital bed. In this day in the video I ruptured a disk carrying those heavy bags and needing spinal decompression and disk replacement surgery. Thus changes everything and I am going to need to rely on my community to help me through this. I'll be sharing videos and updates and would love to have you stay over and help 💚🌻
