Huge first cut silage yield - congratulations. Early housing last Autumn meant that you did not pound the grassland badly and, not least, causing compaction. Undoubtedly new seeding stitched into old pasture will really boost production - takes a year to get established and then look out but it will likely need to be repeated again in the future. Newer varieties of grass may well respond both quicker and earlier in the year to both fertilizer use and warmer soils and with greater yield than traditional grasses however, depending on the varietal mixture, they may die out quicker or lose production sooner in the autumn so you will need to monitor this possible issue. Many seed suppliers also are moving towards a more defined and pronounced two sward system of either grazing leys or conservation leys. There are few seeds mixtures that serve both purposes really well in my opinion. We have also seen big benefits on long term grassland especially silage ground using subsoilers to break up compaction but designed for use in grassland eg the Sumo but there are others! Dan

Yea looking at triploid overseed mixes at the minute pronitro do a good one woth a casting of fetiliser on the seed itself

should look around for a tedder I'd say. Ursus should handle a 4 or 6 rotor trailed, frightening the weight of them you'd need 100hp for mounted ones really. Can turn away all day then yourself 😂 can't complain about too much grass
@Canningfarms5 ай бұрын
That ursus would s**t herself if she seen a big tedder 🤣🤣 definitely not not with the way the grass has decided to go on strike and not grow

Nice Video. Why do so many farmers in Ireland have mowers with a landing gear? Wouldn’t a mower without it easier and cheaper?
@Canningfarms5 ай бұрын
Thanks so much .. I think it's just that the ground would be abit un even and rocky in places with the wheels it takes the weight off the mower and allows it to float better but in the last few years contractors are more and more moving towards the fold out butterfly mowers to get more Done because weather is getting worse and worse here

Would a silage pit of grass be any good for you or do you prefer bales?
@Canningfarms6 ай бұрын
Yea I used to do pit when I started just find bales handier to handle in the winter with the tractor I have if I got a bigger tractor with a loader I'd think about a pit again

Hi john.. not my own machine but they seem to very popular over here overall a great tractor by all accounts the tractor on the baler is a 210 farm I work on has a t6 155 and they are very happy with it

Would u not do a pit since you have a nice spot where u stack the bales pits are far handier and less messier than bales

Yea used to do a pit when I started out just founf the bales handier if I got something down the line with a front loader or something I'd maybe go back to it. Block cutter was alot for the tractor we have
