Check out Green Rush. It's a nature park up the mountain on the road to El Salvedor (Carr. El Salvedor). It has an epic view of lake Amititlan and the volcanoes and you will get some of the most best sunset views from there overlooking Guatemala City. Outside of the capital, check out the southern pacific beaches, Antigua, Lake Atitlan, Xela in the highlands, Semuc Champey in the central part of the country, and Tikal in the north. Whatever you can fit in to your trip will be amazing, enjoy!

Guatemala is best known for its volcanic landscape, fascinating Mayan culture and the colorful colonial city of Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But this small Central American country has a wealth of homegrown produce and talent.

hey man welcome to Guatemala!!! Im leaving tomorrow but will be following your videos, hope you show more of Guatemala City, its really nice place, we are proud of how clean it is and contrary to the "news" its quite safe. . . Chiken bus is actually not a guatemalan name, we call them "parrilleras", but its common for tourist call them chicken bus. Anyway, if you are still here in a couple weeks I would like to show you more of our beautifull city, hit me up.

Great video from Guatemala City..! Nice weather not cold not hot..very spring like Zone 10 is really nice. I have walked it too. But people in that part of Guatemala City dont walk on the street due to the mentioned safety factors. So its like that all the time. It was like that on my 1st trip to Guatemala City in 1998, second in 2008 and my last on 2012. Very clean but no pedestrians walking on the street. Guatemala has a large population of German descendants that arrived a long time ago. So its common to see the Berlin Plaza, German School and Austrian Schools. The German colony has made an impact in Guatemala. Wow what a great journey, in an unknown city to many travelers. My favorite restaurant in Zone 10 is La Media Cancha is an Argentine Steakhouse ran by a former Argentine football or soccer player that has lived in Guatemala for over 30 plus years and has a great restaurant, cant beat the Pollo Campero and the local Guatemalan food.

Zona 10 is the 'zona viva,' supposedly with some good nightlife (specifically higher-end restaurants and bars). That christmas tree draws a huge crowd the first night they light it! There are fireworks and everything. One thing that's super fun around Avenida Reforma/Las Americas is they close off the streets on Sundays (I think) for 4 hours and exclusively use the area for bike riding, walking, running, and rollerblading! Overall, you're right as you noticed - veerrryyy few tourists stay in Guatemala City and even think the city should be avoided. It's been cleaned up a lot over the last few years! (Just keep away from zone 1 as a tourist. That's where the extortion usually starts) I've been living in Guatemala for 5 years, in the City for 3, and I forget to enjoy a lot of these places. Thanks for the video!

Haha, this is awesome. I was living in Verdun earlier this year when you did a video there and now I am in Mexico, headed to Guatemala where you just did this video. Total coincidence. Small world - loved the video by the way, took away any concerns I had over staying in Guatemala City for a few days. Oh and that ALWAYS happens to me when I arrive in a new country - totally get discombobulated even though I have been to 66 countries. It's a curse - glad I am not the only one. Finally, good point about camera security. I was in the Lyon France metro last month and someone stole my top of the line iPhone right out of my hand as the train doors closed. Wake up call for my Latin America adventure - I let my guard down after three uneventful months in Europe - and that shitty thing happened. A Good Samaritan helped me make a police report and I could delete all the data as it was an iPhone - but that was a costly mistake on my part. You're not in Canada anymore Toto!

My mom is originally from Guatemala. I’ve spent plenty of time there and actually lived in the country for almost a year when I was 7 yrs old. There are definitely a lot of cool places to visit. I recommend checking out Rio Dulce and making your way to Livingston which has many afro latinos and a very different cuisine. The island town of Flores in the region of Peten is also a nice place. From there you can easily get transportation to the Mayan ruins of Tikal. Flores was probably the safest town ive been to in the country. I remember seeing tourists walking around with no issue around 10 at night. But yeah, definitely take precautions, even more so than Mexico City. And know which zones to avoid. Hope you enjoy your time there. Fun fact about Pollo Campero, it has become a favorite throughout various Central American countries and has expanded into other countries including the US, but it’s originally from Guatemala. Unfortunately, it’s losing popularity in the country due to the expensive prices. People are starting to shift to cheaper copy cat options.
