After nearly two decades of traveling the world, I finally made it to my 94th country, Kenya! I started my journey in the capital city, Nairobi, which is where we are today.
Joining me on this trip is my friend and cameraman Tasos and our guide Obed from Kumbukumbu Tours. He would be taking us to several cities and locations around the country over the next 10 days!
🇰🇪 More Kenya Videos:
MAKING UJI: Kenyan uji is a porridge made from millet. At this porridge factory, they also add sorghum and ground nuts, wash them, strain them, and then use a machine to grind and press them into uji. It’s very tasty, sweet, healthy, and filling and helps fight malnutrition.
STREET MARKET: After leaving the uji factory, we explored an outdoor market where we found vendors selling shoes, boots, old books, jackets, hoodies, and sweatpants. We also tried rolex, a local dish made from chapatis and eggs. They also had smocha, which is a sausage link wrapped in chapati. We also got mayai chemsha (sliced boiled eggs with a tomato-and-onion salsa called kachumbari inside).
And that’s it for our first morning in Kenya!
Where have you been?

I have grown up drinking that porridge.. am glad someone found the easiest way to process the porridge.. The original style is people back in meru, from my mum's side there was a rock and grinder ised to grind the sorghum and millet, then the fermentation process was longer than a day.. really depends with what you want but i know grandma used to make it last upto a week or so.. and honestly.. this was my favourite porridge.. it was a little tart & sour but with some sugar there was a good sweetness into it.. this is one of the delicacy's i look forward to when i go back to my homeland🥹❤️.

Millets are a powerhouse of nutrients. In India too these are considered ancient grains. Millets were consumed long before rice and wheat was even cultivated. in the South of India the first solid meal a baby gets is a porridge made of finger millet also called Ragi in India. almost every state in India except for a few in the North eat flatbreads made of either pearl millet or Sorghum atleast once a day. its called "Bhakri" or Rotla. Bajre ka Rotla is a staple bread in the states of Gujrat and Rajasthan. this kind of porridge shown in this video too is very common among vegetarians as fermented millet soup is very high in B12 which is otherwise found only in organ meat. we grind the millets into a watery consistency and then boil it just the way its shown here . then we let it ferment overnite. next day we just add a pinch of salt or some jaggery (sugarcane Molasses) to this and drink it first thing - empty stomach. Excellent source of probiotics, minerals like Potassium, Magnesium, Iron, Phosphorus, Calcium, B complex vitamins ect all blended in one drink. Millets were the grains of farmers. it kept them so strong , they could work in acres of their fields. and those days there were no machinery. they tilled the land manually with the help from cattle. Even the cattle fodder was grass and husks of the millet crops.

Great video! I’m not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet, but “ground nuts” aren’t nuts that have put through a grinder, but rather nuts that grow on the ground, as opposed to those that grow on trees. Basically, it’s just another term for peanuts.

Good morning David. Africa, Africa Africa. Well, finally Kenya is here. Nice start with breakfast. Did you realize that you had a whole breakfast with the porridge and the egg? And healthy too.
