I love your gear man. How could make such a tiny guitar sounds like its a full size guitar. I first saw it when you play Fly Me To The Moon. What pick up did you install on that? Any other upgrades? Saddle? Nut? What string are you using for these? I am not be as good as you but I really like your guitar tone.

Am I the only one who doesn't get this gimmicky way of singing, with the quirky distorted nuances and cracking vowels. A not so pronounced cockney accent mixed in. It's difficult to describe but I see it's very easy to replicate as many are singing this way now. I don't get it.
@julienmueller5 жыл бұрын
What if I tell you that it’s more than just a gimmick and that I would only work with a voice that is genuinely resonating ? Signe is incredibly talented. Check out her other videos alongside Hvetter to maybe get more than just one perspective of her and her music. I personally would not judge a persons artistry based only on one single performance.

Julien Mueller again I'm referring to this new sound I've been hearing a lot lately where it's clearly an act on the artists part to alter accents and vowel sounds for a unique and quirky output. It's prevalent and getting more and more commonplace. The technique used doesn't take away from the talent an artist may have unfortunately in my opinion it certainly didn't add to it.

Maggie May - Maybe I haven’t listened to other KZbinrs enough to make out this « trend » or be annoyed by it . In the moment we recorded the song I was happy with her vocal performance, so i was in the mix and so i am now. At no stage of the process I thought “this sounds just like...”, even with a day of distance to your last comment when I tried to listen to it with *fresh ears* ... Sorry, but I really don’t get your point or annoyance about her performance - and that’s me speaking from a musician’s point of view instead of a friend’s
@jodygirrl5 жыл бұрын
Julien Mueller I can understand your point. I myself have questioned my opinion including asking another friend of mine who happens to be a vocal coach. I've heard this way of singing from all walks of life and from every part of USA and never understood why the slight British accent with this technique. I stress that it's my opinion and I have felt like the only one who sees the big pink elephant in the room. The majority finding this sound quite enjoyable. To ME it's pretentious sounding and not honest. It's altering ones speech to fit a particular musical trend. One can be brought up in the heart of Kentucky yet sing like they're from a suburb of London. Many artists are using this style and it's becoming quite popular so perhaps I'm in the minority but I personally have truly wanted to know if I am not the only one who sees this and is holding this same opinion. I did not make this comment to be mean and troll for I find your voice to be quite powerful and it's not as pronounced in your way of singing. As I had stated before, it doesn't take away from the talent an artist has but it does distract me enough to wonder of its increasingly popular style. I have asked, "is it just me" but to my surprise quite a few have stated the exact same thing. It's a folksy, bring out the ukulele, style of singing, but it IS a vocal style/trend nonetheless. One that I personally find disingenuous. I can't shake it each time I hear that. Be you, be real when you sing. Do not adopt sounds because they're trending. Music is intensely intimate for the listener. Bringing the soul to the lyrics. Each person interpreting lyrics to their own circumstances. The artists voice being the catalyst. Honesty is key for that connection.

@@jodygirrl Alright, I think I got the essence! So you basically feel frustration each time someone is singing with a voice that is not their own - which in your eyes means that him or her wouldn't be able to make any connection with the listener and doesn't bring out any emotion. I think it's a lot of frustration for very little result in my honest opinion. I am happy that these young people might get into singing thanks to British accent singers (like Duffy or Adele) - even if that means imitating someone! I am convinced that must of them will adapt along the way once they have tasted success or get an idea about their own vocal identity. I used to sing classical music and it sounded nothing like me. Tried to be a Sinatra or Bublé, then stumbled upon Jason Mraz when I was 19 which gave my music a proper direction. I studied his vocal style and probably also sounded like him at first. I only found my *proper/honest/real/own/* voice by the time I hit 25. You have to "fake" certain style in order to get familiar with it and there is nothing wrong with it. Just trust that the people will adapt and find their own voice. It's great that you encourage them to find their own vocal identity and therefore be their real and honest self but I don't think it happens through the ways of frustration but rather an encouragement to try other styles and find your own blend!
