“When you make friends make sure to ask their name!” “Noo it’s so awkward” I felt That Aurora 😂 I hope this new classroom and setup helps Aurora a lot more! I’ve had an IEP all throughout school for 2 different subjects and having to go to a separate classroom than the other kids, and it really helped me! Aurora is super smart I know she’s gonna do great! And her speech is AMAZING!!

You can really see the colour in Jamie's hair, I had my hair purple once but I'm a natural blonde but it looks gorgeous on Jamie as she is naturally tanned

Aurora has been making tremendous progress alongside her general education peers over the past couple of years. If you notice a decline in her progress in the self contained classroom environment, know that the law is on your side to advocate for her to be in a general education classroom setting with additional support. They might say they “don’t have the support” but legally the school is responsible to help the child stay in the least restrictive environment and provide adequate support, even if it costs more money. As a special education teacher myself I will say Aurora is EXTREMELY young and progressing EXTREMELY quickly to be put into a self contained classroom at this age. Kids learn so much from their peers at this young age and being with general education peers is probably a large factor in why her speech was progressing so quickly. I highly highly recommend hiring a special education advocate in your area to help you navigate the system because speaking as someone who has seen all sides of the system, most school systems do what costs them least for most students unless a qualified advocate who understands the laws gets involved. Legally Aurora does not have to achieve at the same level as her peers as a 5 or 6 year old. She should have an IEP with individualized goals and as long as she is making progress towards those goals she is doing just fine. If she isn’t making progress towards those goals, either the goals need to be rewritten (because she is clearly progressing by leaps and bounds) or the school needs to provide increased support still in the least restrictive environment. Highly highly recommend talking with an advocate to understand the law and the research on this. She is extremely young and extremely intellectually advanced to be separating her from her general education peers entirely. I never give advice like this from behind a computer screen, only to friends and family, but I am shocked that no one has written a comment about this yet. I kept looking for this comment from someone else and didn’t see it. Make sure you look into this and fully understand Aurora’s rights and the research on what is best for her intellectual development at this age before you just go along with what the school said on this. You have the financial means to advocate for Aurora if necessary. These younger years are critical developmentally and being around general education peers (with adequate support as needed) can progress language development much more rapidly. To Cody's question about the soap, the answer is both. Congrats Arora starting your knew school. I would have a hard time eating blue Ramen but that looked cool. I like the black grapes the best but some people don't because they are really sweet. Everytime I see Jamie holding and hugging Arora my heart is touched. Because of you and Aaron, their life is so much better and they see each other daily.

So glad that the first day of a new school went well for Aurora.
