Imagine thinking you would be killed. But going anyway. Now that’s bravery. Lest we forget.

My Great-Grandfather's Regiment the 9th. He survived and went on to join the 16th Battalion and fought in Palestine. His name was Walter Arthur Holland and I hope to find a photo of him one day as I do not know what he looks like

Hi, Rob. After watching your video yesterday providing a guide for checking out (in a day) Somme battlefields, I added this video to my playlist and got a chance to watch it now. I apologize for the large volume of comments today - my interest in WWI has grown a lot over the past year (partially due to your videos) and I wanted to learn even more about the Somme, so I checked this one out. You did a great job of showing the views German troops had. As you mentioned, the area is quite open. Lt. Hogdson's poem is moving and powerful. Thanks for sharing. I wish his concerns and Captain Martin's concerns were heeded. The casualties are so high... The plaque is powerful. Great video again. I hope you have a great week. Take care

Thank you for another interesting and informative video. I like the way you describe and show the Battle Ground surrounding the Cemetery. I have visited Mansell Copse several times. I have been told that the Copse was named after an officer that was killed there prior to the 1 July 1916. Could you confirm if that is correct please ?

Thank you. I'm actually not sure on the origin of Mansell Copse name

Really excellent account thank you.Obviously mensioning the machine gun positions ,what was the killing yardage of one of these weopens.

Thank you. The German MG 08 for example could be used pretty effectively over more than 2000m so quite a distance. To give you an idea on this specific part of the battlefield that could cover a distance from the German MG positions to well beyond the British support line

Amazing, really deadly at that distance. Thanks so much for your reply.
