I'm loving my new Suzuki DRZ400S so far. I bought the thing to ride it in the woods, so it didn't take long for me to get out on my first Suzuki DRZ400 dual sport adventure. I headed out from the house and up into the woods near Shotgun Creek OHV to do a little dual sport exploring. Tons of great stuff on this ride including several very amazing views, a locked gate (shocker), a couple really intriguing, secluded potential motocamping sites, abandoned logging roads, riding under and over logs, and a whole ton of fun getting to know my new DRZ400 dual sport motorcycle.

I was more inclined to the DR650 until a great deal presented a DRZ400, and now I'm happy with the 400 over the 650. But whatever you have, get out and ride.

Thanks! I enjoyed the video. You have some great country to ride in. I had the stock “deathwings” on my DR650. They were nice road tires but were horrible on wet grass and sand. After 2,000 miles I switched to a set of Mitas E-07 and love them. They’re a 50/50 and lasting much longer on the road and they dig into the sand real good here in Florida.

Trailwings are really underated, they came on my DR650 too. At first I was really underwhelmed and couldn't wait to burn through them so I could put some 50/50 tires on. Ended up going with kenda k270's and while they are great off road, I find myself missing the trailwings for the mild off roading I do. Trailwings handle pretty much everything but deep mud and sand with ease and they're super smooth on the road.
@DorkintheRoad
@DorkintheRoad 4 жыл бұрын
They've exceeded my expectations on everything but mud so far...but here in the PNW we pretty much have mud year-round so good mud traction is pretty much necessary.
@gregorbabic7664
@gregorbabic7664 4 жыл бұрын
I find them perfectly good for my WR250R. Think I may actually stay with them. Even with them being half worn when I got my used bike, I did single track trails with them that I normally do with my KTM200EXC and I was able to ride it all. No mud exposure, but unless you have full knobbies, you will always have issues in mid with dual sport tires. Reality is a lot of riding is done on the road and you can be aggressive and lean the 301/302s right over.

Awesome content! I am seriously looking at a DRZ to compliment my KLR for the harder routes. Currently rebuilding my KLR after discovering a rear subframe fracture and a motor mount fracture from riding too hard (too many bottom outs despite upgraded suspension), and not keeping up with bolt torques. One subframe bolt, the big one on the right side missing, and the left side frame fractured from carrying all the load. Lesson learned. Keep us updated on the DRZ. Seems like an offroad beast.

I never had any issues with the “deathwings” on my old DRZ. Found them to be great on wet and dry tarmac and good on my off road riding (I even did a couple of motoX practice days on it at Tony Moto MX track too, made the DRZ fly 😂). Loved that bike. ✊️

I think you'll find that the track masters are amazing off road but they wear extremely fast on pavement. I went through a couple of the Kendas on my last bike. Loved them so much off road. Be careful on the pressure of the front tire with the Kenda. If you run it below 20psi on the road, you will wear off every other row of knobs and the tire will be trash. I aired down once for the trails and forgot to air back up and I destroyed the front tire in short order.

@@DorkintheRoad haven't tried this bike but TKC80s seem like a nice bet for front grip. They allow you to ride pretty aggressively onroad(i scrape pegs with em but i'm probably gambling a bit there, lol) and hold well enough offroad for me. Rear TKC is good but quick wear so I might pair it with something else. My front TKC80 will probably last 10k kms, based on the 2k i've done so far with no visible wear.

@DorkintheRoad
@DorkintheRoad 4 жыл бұрын
Depends on how much highway you want to do I guess. The DR will do everything the DRZ will do, it's just heavier. 650 would be better if you do much highway. DRZ much better if you're just going to be mainly off road.

Having the same bike, you'll want to consider knobby tires for more dirt applications, adding 3 or 4 teeth to the rear sprocket (or dropping 1 tooth on the front) for better gearing in the dirt, ESPECIALLY for low speed, smaller trails - you do NOT want 350 pounds on your tiptoes on an uphill grade coming to a full stop. It is a painful experience!!! That much weight, especially on a bike that tends to be top heavy, is uncomfortable to say the least.

I haven't spent a ton of time on the WR but I do have a little experience with it. WR is more modern bike with fuel injection and a 6th gear. Suspension is probably about the same. DRZ has more power, especially down low. WR likes to live in the high revs to make its power. The power difference between the two is noticeable. Both great bikes, though, so you really can't go wrong. Ride 'em both if you can.
