Real or fake?!
PAPER TOWEL TEST VIDEO: reelC0KXSt...
Jan Fischer(gecko owner) has posted what could turn out to be the first ever hyper melanistic crested gecko. It feels like there is something new popping up all the time in the crested gecko world! With a few exciting new morphs recently showing up, it would not be surprising to see something like this be real, however there are concerns. It is easy to see and understand where these concerns come from so it will be very exciting to watch all of this unfold as what could be the first ever hyper melanistic crested gecko!!!

Imagine what it would take to paint a crestie that perfectly. No way it is painted. It's likely legit. If it's a fake it's a damn good one.

im fairly confident its real. my crestie has some less dull/slightly reflective scales on her forehead like this one and she’s a fire dalmatian morph. also another thing to point out is that acrylic paint doesnt have a sheen like that. it dries matte, so the only way that it would be shiny would be with a coat of varnish/clear coat. also a very low chance it was painted since every little detail under scales and the crests is filled in, which wouldnt be easy to do. also im not too sure on the spur situation, i think its black because of the hypermelanism? since melanism removes all light pigments in skin/scales, the yellow spurs wouldn’t be accurate, unless that is a specific thing that is unaffected by morph types.

You can get high gloss acrylic, but there have also been other theories for what could've been used. You're exactly right though on the detail though. I'm very hopeful after the follow up videos that have come out. Either way, the person who owns the gecko does seem to be communicating pretty regularly with David at Tikis and filming the videos people are requesting. So hopefully it turns out to be real!

@@moore_reptiles yeah! i really hope so, its a one of a kind gecko (at least for now). i think someone said it couldve been henna but i dont really think thats probable since henna is a more brown shade than black. i think paint is pretty much out of the picture since regardless of the type of paint it would crack with movement, just like on human skin. i dunno, i really hope this is real and that this gecko isnt in any pain/danger if its not real
@moore_reptiles
@moore_reptiles 7 ай бұрын
Yea henna doesn't make sense since it's so thick and has to stay on for so long to dye the skin. Even then it doesn't seem to get very dark. Someone talked about dye that is used for live stock like pigs. I don't know anything about that stuff but I feel like dyed scales might look different than this. This seems like its either the actual animal, or a coating over the skin. Another point that's absolutely valid too is the cracking thing. It definitely seems like it'd crack and you'd see something underneath coming through
@grumpycricket
@grumpycricket 7 ай бұрын
This could be done with acetylene soot. It's dry, powdery and could be dabbed on with a brush. There would be no drying or cracking, but it would be a flat, jet black appearance. That said, I don't think it's a fake. The animal doesn't look at all stressed.

Somtimes darker shades bring out nuances that are not seen in ligter animals. e.g. a golden child retic has an iridescence that is not clearly visible on lighter morphs.

@moore_reptiles i split 50/50 on this gecko. Too, time will tell. Its like i saw super cappuccino before they were public, and i understood their were real but completely understood why people couldn't believe they were real, lol. Im founding 2 lines right now they might be a morph but way to soon only 2nd gen into the project: lilly white eb super soft highlighter, and very similarto c2/lavenders. It seems to be dominant. it might actually be something different too soon to tell. im planning to throw cappuccino and sable into it (i have a friend who has a sable). Hopefully, i will have something as interesting in a few years 😅 hopefully a bunch of people will be accusing me of photoshoping or painting a geckoes those same people in a few months will be paying me top dollar for female babies (got to protect the early investors in a new morph especially if they are a co dominant morphs)

So I wanted to put in my skeptical theory here, even though I hope it's legit. You mentioned how paint is difficult to apply, but no one has considered jagua? It's like henna but it comes out black. It'd be easy to dip a gecko in (ALSO SO CRUEL), and the stain would set in in a few days.

I think it is fake, but i may be wrong in my reasoning. I don't have a crested gecko, but i thought they could easily stick their feet on most surfaces. In the short video clip, look at the way the feet are sliding. Based on how much the feet are sliding, i think it has been painted.

I would like to see them rub an actual wet tissue on the gecko instead. or post a picture or video of it shedding or its shed.
